I've seen apps that prompt in a modal popup "The next screen will ask you for permission... " but professionally done permission priming done by Dropbox is a much better design! These are great ideas. Thanks for the video Sean!

Glad you liked it, C. I agree, permission priming can be done poorly.

There are many restaurants in my area - Pizza and Chinese food mostly - which have apps that actively turn me off from doing business with them. The thing I hate the most - and refuse to do - is to sign-up or sign-in before I can see their menu or prices. I’ll happily sign in if I decide to place an order - but I’m not creating an account with you just to *SEE* your menu. 19 times out of 20 when I see an app like that, I close it and delete it and order from one of their competitors and I won’t even give their app another try for at least 6 months to a year.

Finally a good ass video about what i wanted to learn about onboarding, i see many talks on how to make 'great onboarding' but none of the talks had examples like this one.

Really appreciate this video. Onboarding experience to me is number one thing when making an app. This is a step that can not be skipped.

Omg this was so on point. I've started rewriting the app and I've just finished the initial splashes, kinda like an pre onboarding thing but I'm gonna talk it through with the client so a bit of study will make a huge impact. Thank you a lot :D

Nice topic, UX is vital nowadays, especially given the number of apps that start to somewhat look very similar in terms of functionality. UX is realy the thing that will separate good apps from bad ones.

Sean: Do you or anyone reading this comment have any recommendations on software to use for creating a video tutorial on how to use the mobile apps that we develop? Is there anything good that comes with templates specifically for app tutorials - like adding visuals to a screen recording that show taps and pinches and swipes and perhaps a voice over commentary track? (I assume that Premiere Pro and After Effects would definitely be capable - but they seem like overkill in terms of learning curve and I was hoping someone here might know of something more straightforward?)

I'm not aware of any because I haven't really looked. Because of this KZbin channel, I've been using Final Cut Pro for a while. I haven't had the need to look for a cheaper, simpler solution.
@Tenly20094 жыл бұрын
Sean Allen Thanks for the reply. Does Final Cut have a template for mobile app tutorials? Or does it include assets that can be added to show pinches, taps and drags?

Not that I'm aware of

A lot of the onboarding reviews on the website are old, which I guess is a good thing that companies change lol
@seanallen4 жыл бұрын
They are, but the theory and concepts are still valid. But it is interesting to see how companies update as well.
