I like the approach of using the pentatonic scale as a foundation and reaching outside for chord tones. Much appreciated as always. I've learned quite a bit from you.

Seth you are such great teacher and player ! This lesson is pure Gold! I have a question, when you are playing over each measure on each chord , how do you always know how many notes to play over each chord .. are you thinking subdivisions or just a phrase for each beat ..? It’s Tough to hear the chord changes going by , I lose track .

@@satchrules101 thanks so much for the kind words! I don't think about the number of notes or subdivisions when I'm playing. I'm just staying aware of the chords as they come up and how much time I get to acknowledge them. The best way to get better at this is by playing only the chords for several choruses. Also, try soloing for 2 bars, then comping for 2 bars, and alternate like that through several choruses. Hope that helps!

Hey, Cool video ! Why did you choose C melodic Minor over the F7 (or F13)?Just a creative choice? That measure has a Bb in the Melody.... .. Would be cool to check out some of the licks in this video...

@@NerdMusic3 thanks for the comment! Yeah, just a creative choice. I like the sound of the lydian dominant over a dominant II chord. I wouldn't play the sharp 11 when the melody is being played tho.

@@sethlojo Cool.... How about the A6 chord? In the real book it's Amaj7. Is that a creative choice also? I know sometimes people swap 6th chords for 7th chords, right?
@sethlojo17 күн бұрын
@@NerdMusic3 yeah, just a creative choice. I was just going with what sounded good to me and what I hear on recordings. Major 6 chords and major 7 chords usually function the same way so they can often be used interchangeably. I think I prefer the way the 6th plays with the melody note at that point in the song.

Hearing the changes is my major issue 😅😅😅. I need help😅
@sethlojo17 күн бұрын
@@samsonolasunkanmi4814 I totally understand. One thing that will help is playing through the chord changes and singing one chord tone on each chord. For example, sing the root of each chord as you play it. Then try singing the 3rd of each chord. It'll help you be more aware of the chords as they go by. Hope that helps!

@sethlojo ok thank you.for example if the chord progression is Cmaj7 E7 Gm7. How should I sing the chord tones. Thank you for anticipated response.
