Bro, that worked like a champ. Took a 230k to 256k in a few minutes. Thanks for sharing. The technique of angling the blade correctly takes a minute to understand. Once you get that, you’re golden.

Very interesting! I was not aware that this could be done. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and share it with everyone.

I am 1 for 3 on using this method to get the values I want vs ruining the pot by overworking it. I currently run a 600k in my Neck and I am very happy. Great vid.

Depending who much of an increase you want, you can scrap off a little of the carbon on the top. I wanted a 1meg pot but instead of buying one, I took a 500k to 800 by doing that.

It's easier to take the back cover off of the pot with miniature flush-cutting wire cutters, by slipping one edge of the wire cutters under the tabs and levering them upwards. Trying to pry them up with a small screwdriver often results in you stabbing your hand with the tip of the screwdriver.

This is cool. But I’m not clear on what you’re scraping. Are you shaving the carbon ring so it’s smaller in OD and larger in ID? I would think that by removing material your Ohms would go down, not up. Does this work for conductive plastic as well as carbon? Is there a way to decrease the resistance? Thanks for sharing. Paul

carbon is conductive.. the more carbon the more conductive.. less carbon less conductive ie more resistance.

What is the maximum value you can increase?

Wow amazing! Is there a limit here? Is it possible to convert a 250K to 500K or is that just outrageous? Can you convert a 500K to 1Meg ?

Hello, noob question... how is it posible that by removing resistive material you are increasing the resistance? shouldn't be the opposite, that adding material to the carbon track will make the resistance of the pot increase? Thanks!
@VicenzzoPaiva Жыл бұрын
i guess that there’s less track for the current to pass, so it’s harder, meaning higher resistance

Solder a 500 Ohm resistor across pins 1 and 3.
@Kuldur6 жыл бұрын
does this ruin the fidelity of the signal.. ie scratchy pot noise
@Guitar59864 жыл бұрын
It did for me. Heard that it's better if you just scrape from the inside. Personally though I'm never doing this again. Ruined a bunch of pots and made them all scratchy.

It seems by scraping the carbon off, the resistance would lessen. Please explain.
@dereksgc5 жыл бұрын
The less conductive material, the more resistance. That's why fuses rated for high current use thicker wires, while low-current ones use very thin, almost hair-like conductors.
