Well armor penetration won't help in pve if your critical hit chance is low. One should aim for 25 percent critical hit chance.

You should also mention the paragon points distribution which also helps boost your damage, arpen, armor, life. I still see many players maxing paragon trees one afther the other and they lose so much with it.

That requires no explanation. You can see in-game the relation. 10 primary attribute gives 1 secondary. 10 fortitude = 1 armor $ arpen.

when the dmg crits its based on armor pen vs your targets armor If you want your poison to last long you need high potency vs your targets resistance

My crit chance is 38% and crit damage is 15% but armor pen is only 1700 and im only 1100 res this is my own character stats not including gems or equipment

Open world isn’t a good example since you are well over the cr requirement anyway but yes armor pen/potency will take you far until you are once again under cr requirement .
