Hi Jacob, totally understandable to be facing this issue. It's a tough concept, but you're already on the path of conquering it! Think of the i just like any other variable. You could even replace i with another variable name, like 'counter' or something. In a basic loop, the i starts a value, increments by 1 every loop, and stops after hitting the final value specified. So in every loop, mentally go thru and think about the value of that 'counter' variable (i). It may also help to to print out the value of i every loop. Simply run the following for i = 1:5 disp(i) end So i just holds a number. Then when I call cracks(i) in the script, I am really calling cracks(whatever value i is). Calling a matrix(1) shows the first value of the matrix. matrix(2) shows the second value of the matrix, and so on. Is this helping? Let me know what other question you have!

Side by side of code and stepping through each loop? Showing what the variables are, what the index is, and what the output is for each loop? A flowchart for each loop going line-by-line?
