Hi Leigh. Thank you so much for this video. I am just beginning art and drawing. I have been experimenting with brush and ink. I have not been able to find many resources except comic book inkers which look very detailed. Your video is just what I have been looking for. Beautiful long, free lines with variable line width. Just what I would imagine the brush is great for. Thank you for the real time demonstration, near vertical brush tip and brush away so you can see the bristles. Thank you. John

I have found via another youtube channel, that you can use fountain pen ink within a watercolour brush pen, if you water the ink down about 1/3 ink to 2/3 water, and I can tell you it defo works very well

So I’m a little Leary about using my good watercolor brushes to play around with my w and n ink set but you seem to believe it perfectly fine? Correct? What about the shellack?

How do you wash your brushes after inking?

I just rinse with water, but I make sure not to let the ink dry on the brush. I keep two cups of water, one for a first rinse and a second for an extra clean rinse.

I believe I was using Strathmore 300 Vellum Bristol for this piece! I usually use either a bristol or an illustration board for pieces with ONLY ink.

Do I need to have dedicated brushes for ink or can I use my watercolor brushes without them getting ruined by the ink? Im about to buy my first set if inks and dont know if I should buy some brushes too just for them. Dont wanna hurt my brushes and I dont know how inks work! Please let me know. Thanks! 😊

Hello! You don't need to use different brushes as long as you wash them well immediately. As long as the ink doesn't dry it won't damage your brush. BUT, I do usually keep my brushes separate only because the ink definitely dyes the bristles and sometimes residual ink can get stuck near the ferrule of the brush and bleed into my watercolors. This is only personal preference though, not necessary! Hope this helps!

@@leighwillart1339 Hi! 😊 Me again, sorry to bother you again, but, quick question if you could help me... Does alcohol (india) ink stain porcelain/ceramic palette? Or does it wipes away like watercolors? I'm about to buy my first inks and don't want to ruin my watercolor palette!

Inking with brushes vs pen is so different with brushes you get like fade/dry brush effect if you fully use up the ink in the brush which is a useful effect if you're looking for that effect but sometimes it's kinda annoying i have very good control with pens I can hatch very finely and very straight compared to brushes albeit iam not that good with brushes
