I don’t see the SIM card slot anywhere on my I pad 9. I know all of my important data is already in iCloud but I’d like to have the connectivity that having wifi available would provide

iPad 9 has 2 models: Wifi only and Wifi+Cellular. You might have the Wifi model if you can't find the SIM Card slot around the side of the iPad. Even with the cellular model, if you are backing up to the cloud, it will back it up once it's connected to Wifi.

The sim card only stores contacts and your service plan. If you need to transfer media like photos, videos, music, docs, etc. consider iCloud backup and restore with your Apple account.
