Hi, how tight do I tighten brake line fittings? I have not done this before.

Hello Jim, Thank you for your question. Start the threaded fitting by hand to reduce the risk of cross-threading the fitting. Use the correct size wrench to tighten the fitting. If a “line wrench” is available use it to tighten the fitting as it will reduce the risk of rounding over the edges of the fitting while applying a moderate amount of force. Once the full set of lines is installed, bleed the air from the brake system. Start the vehicle in park and apply pressure to the brake pedal for 5-10 seconds. Check all fittings and unions for any signs of leaks. If any leaks are found loosen the fitting a little and then re-tighten the fitting. (the line may not fully seal on the first tightening due to the hardness of the line) Bleed brakes and double-check for leaks. Happy Travels! LinesToGo Team

2003-2008 Toyota Corolla, Celica, and Matrix. Front brake flexible hose union bolt to the disc brake cylinder (front brake caliper) Specified torque is 21 Foot-pound (29 N-m). The rear drum brake line to the rear wheel brake cylinder Assy Specified torque is 11 Foot-pound (15 N-m). The brake tubes to the proportioning valve Assy Specified torque is 11 Foot-pound (15 N-m). To connect each brake tube to the correct positions of the brake actuator Assy Specified torque is 11 Foot-pound (15 N-m). The brake bleeder plug's Specified torque is 74 inch-pound (8.3 N-m). 2003-2008 Toyota Corolla (XRS), Celica (GT-S), and Matrix (XRS) with rear disc brakes. Rear disc flexible hose union bolt to the disc brake cylinder (rear disc caliper) Specified torque is 21 Foot-pound (29 N-m). The brake bleeder plug's Specified torque is 8 Foot-pound (11 N-m). Torque specifications are from the original Toyota factory service manual. Yes, I always do everything by factory book with proper tools like flare nut wrenches and flare nut sockets, and a torque wrench. I prefer Snap-on Flank Drive Flare Nut wrenches and Flank Drive Flare Nut Sockets. I would not use an open-end wrench to remove or secure brake lines.

Is it recommended to change master cylinder and proportioning valve and flexible lines while changing all the lines?

Hi, Flex hoses should be visibly inspected for chafing or excessive rust. The master cylinder and proportioning valve should not need to be replaced unless there is a specific issue with one of them. Here to help, LinesToGo Team
