Very good informative video! One thing that I like to do is cut away the exposed gaskets from the water pump and timing cover with an Exacto knife. To me, that looks a little cleaner and only takes a few minutes. Cheers!

At 5m 00s you say to fit intake and exhaust rockers arms to #1 Cyl but in the pic they're already fitted and the guys fitting then to #3 cyl. You then advise to turn the crank 90° and fit to #3 ..... but he's already done it lol.

Ive seen people in comments be upset about the amount of torque used. OEM on mine is a hex head bolt. ARP use a flange head bolt. The book states, (use ft lbs for all but final!) hex use a 2 step of 55 to 65 then 65 to 72. I switched to ARP (flange head) so its a 3 step process 25 to 35 then 45 to 55 and a final of 85 to 95 DEGREES rotation. This is verbatim. It does not mention a 3rd to 80ft lbs or just the top bolts but ALL bolts.

The book says after the 70 ft lb pass to torque all the upper head bolts to 80.
@mikecodester4 жыл бұрын
Is this still true? The uppers go to 80
@vadneysean72 Жыл бұрын
Whos book? Final 3rd Pass for flange bolts is 85 to 95 degrees. Hex heads only have a 2 step process ending at 72 ft lbs max.

About 4 minutes in you indicate to use thread sealant on the lower bolts. Since it goes through the water jacket, what specific thread sealant do you suggest?

@FNKleviaTHIN10 ай бұрын
and can I use regular assembly use in place of it?
@latemodelrestoration10 ай бұрын
Fastener lube is formulated specifically to duplicate all fastener preload specifications. You see this with higher end hardware such as ARP. Assembly lube is formulated to protect new or freshly machined parts from wear after staring the engine following a build. -Landan

@Lilzsnr8 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue using a set of tall aluminum valve covers on my engine with the high mount alternator. I took half to 3/4 of an inch off of the valve cover face down to the mounting flange and then welded in a 3mm flat plate. After paint it looks factory and is still miles away from #1 cyl intake valve train.

I bought a B-303 cam with new roller lifters new springs and new spring retainers. When I called comp cams one guy told me to buy 8 1.375" retainers and 8 1.437 retainers. I was wondering why I need 2 different sizes. Is one size intake and one size exhaust or was I just told to buy the wrong stuff? I have a 302 with stock heads I'm just changing out the few things I mentioned. Anything helps, thanks.
@latemodelrestoration3 жыл бұрын
Hey Robert, the intake and the exhaust do take different sizes. As when it comes to those specific sizes, those are most likely correct by what Comp Cams told you.

@brettfrimmer65674 жыл бұрын
Casting itself is not bad. It’s the valve job and valvetrain components that are garbage. You buy them you got put all new valves and springs on them and get a good valve job, by that point you can just get better trickflow heads.
@matrixbikes5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but you should soak the lifters in oil over night and the cylinder head torque should be 80 lb. No matter if it is iron or aluminum heads.
