love the threadripper mounting mechanism no more akward cpu handling and placing or wobbly aftermarket backplate

Hey! Very informative video. I am building a pc with a 3970x. Should I be concerned if the thermal paste gets squeezed into the tiny gap between the cpu and the metal load plate (the thing that says "open 3->2->1" and "close 1->2->3")? I am using noctua nt-h2 as well. Looking at 5:52, it looks like the thermal paste will get squeezed to the tiny gap when the waterblock is placed on top of the cpu.

One question I had, is the last gen sTR4 cooler mount is the same? On a different note, I would recommend leaving the pin protector on until you have slide CPU in place. I'm glad you didn't drop your CPU on those pins-lol.

That is a good point. I thought the same when I was reviewing the video. Also, EK confirmed that their coolers are all compatible with all threadrippers so yeah it’s the same SP3 socket mounting system.

Thats a good point if you have that pin protector. On a Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Extreme there is not pin protector only that thing in the slider.

Hi. I was looking everywhere for some king of solid tests of the performance of EKWB EK-Velocity sTR4 CPU Waterblock. Can you let me know how it performs? Are you happy with a results comparing to competitors? Do you have any opinion you could share? Thanks in advance for potential response - I am at the stage of completing a loop for 3990X and I am wondering which block to choose. EK or Watercool Heatkiller.

The EK sTRX40 block performance is solid, similar to all my previous ek block experience. Honestly I haven’t tried any other blocks for Threadripper. The only other block that piqued my interest was the optimus threadripper waterblock.

@@SuprUsrStan Can you tell me what kind of temps you are achieving on your setup under stress? Just curious.
@SuprUsrStan4 жыл бұрын
@@krzysztofkuczynski1562 This is going to be more of a function of how much radiator capacity you have, but I idle in the low 30's and under PBO load, I can stay stable at 4.2Ghz at around 60C or 70C. I have proven 4.4Ghz at around 1.45V but that's a stupid amount of power going through the chip and temps topped out at 92-94C.

@@SuprUsrStan can't talk about the cooler but totally agree that the power increase becomes too much for the benefits, best settings for my 3960x was 4.3Ghz@1.28V around 220-230Watts after that it jumps to 300+ watts not worth it at all, the heatkiller from various reviews seems to be 2-3°C cooler than the EK velocity, the velocity tough has a better less restrictive liquid flow, thus the name
