I never trust the set screw with copper, i always pull the o rings and sweat it. Then once cool you just put the outside o ring back on.

@@williamgoswick4392 my fav is just useing a good sized brass nipple, i like to put drop ears in for the tub spout too so a 2 1/2 male/male nipple works great. Also helps if youre setting a fiber glass wall kit, you can unscrew the stub out and put it back till youre ready to trim out.

Take out the inside and outside O ring and sweat it, it takes 5 minutes and it’s guaranteed leak proof unless you suck at soldering.

Deburring is great for o-rings, emery cloth is not. The scratches are too coarse and it can cause a leak. For example, SharkBite instructions specifically say not to use emery cloth to prepare the pipe.

My pipe looks just like that but when I try to put a new spout on, water shoots back into the wall, past the o ring seal and leaks downstairs (upstairs bathroom) how do I fix that?

That looks like a Delta brand tub spout adapter. I just installed one, but mine had to be soldered on. The packaging mentioned a version that used a set screw like in the video. So look for "Delta Tub Spout"

I have a Delta Porter tub spout (black). It didn't come with an adapter and has female threads towards the end of the spout. What do I need to buy to connect it to smooth copper pipe with no male threads or anything?

Unscrew the tub spout, use silicone or some other caulk around the stubout so water doesn't flow back into the wall. Maybe just buy and install a new tub spout.

Those spouts with the threads in the back are not DIY friendly... what a nightmare trying size them flush to the wall.

Don't thread it flush then. Thread as close as you can get, with the spout pointed down, then just caulk the gap. If you want, put a plastic shim behind the spout so it can tighten against the shim.

The adapter has o-rings. Sharp copper pipe can cut those o-rings. Thus, the copper pipe has to be deburred each time it’s cut and right before installing the adapter
