Awesome! Q1 Could you please tell me what would be a good recommended bee suit and veil please? I know, no bee suit wil be 100 % protective of course. But what would be an ideal one you could recommend please that is of the safest kind! Or even a recommended website perhaps to help. There are different veils on them too. So which head gear is preferred? Q2 Also if you are just a hobbyist and you only want to keep a couple of hives. How would you stop having more more hives? As the queen bee is always laying eggs, so the hive would be continuously growing, or you would need to split them, or they will swarm wont they if it gets to big.

Plenty of honey in hive for new bees. My question is do I need to worry about those dead bees or will the bees clean out the dead ones

If you somehow missed and didn't see a queen in a colony, but mistakenly thought it was queenless, what is the estimated chances that they'd try to ball/kill a new queen cage going in? Can watching for balling on a new queen cage be reliable in determining if you already have a queen, if you have bad eyes?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is the sugar spray you use just a quick mix of water and sugar from home? or is there a specific brand you'd recomend?

quick mix from home. Don't need to buy it. Just make sure the spray bottle didn't have any chemicals in it prior to use and clean thoroughly.

I have now since 2018, around 150 fruittrees growing on my property and will start beekeeping this year! Only question, I never find the answer to: How do you get a queen bee? Do you put honey in the beehive and they just come to it and "make" a queen? Buying a queen is not an option, since I live on a remote island in the subtropics... Possibly a stupid question, but really don't find an answer anywhere!
@amandaciesielski97313 ай бұрын
This is exactly how you would do it. Try to attract a swarm. I the spring the bees will swarm looking for a new home. You'll see them randomly grouped on a branch or sometimes on a park bench. You can try to put your box next to them with lemon grass or honey or something inside to hopefully attract them there. Good luck

You should always keep candy and entrance down. The strap was on a right side. You did it wrong! In some cases candy can even kill a queen - melting down.

Backyard Bees NC correct
@GDHoneyAcresandCraftWork4 жыл бұрын
you either should have the candy up or to the side. Never down. Unless you want to trap the queen in the cage when an attendant dies. I follow backyard bees on here too. Check them out.
@ThEcLoUdBuStEr4 жыл бұрын
@@GDHoneyAcresandCraftWork bees from outside will clean way out for a queen - that's basic beekeeping. Also dead bee can stuck to the candy when you place it up or down - doesn't matter. Temperature in the hive is higher and candy can easy melt down. Candy always down! I'm a queen breeder but do whatever you want and lose your queens.
@GDHoneyAcresandCraftWork4 жыл бұрын
ThEcLoUdBuStEr higher chance of the dead bee causing a issue when it’s down n
@ThEcLoUdBuStEr4 жыл бұрын
@@GDHoneyAcresandCraftWork opposite! But when you buy my queens it doesn't matter cuz I know how to make good candy - no melting in high temps. Bees will chew full comb when it is necessary for releasing a queen. Dead bee is no problem for them. Maybe you all do it in a wrong way in USA/Canada - I'm from Europe and we know how to handle bees - no CCD here. 99% - 100% overwintering with harsh mountain climate is what to expect. 95% is worst case scenario what I can accept. Good luck!

What is the little item smoking in the background during your presentatio?
@TheeInjun4 жыл бұрын
That's actually called a smoker. It is used by most beekeepers in hive inspections and management. It serves to calm the bees by disrupting their scent-based communication. In an established hive, they load up on honey, making it difficult to sting; in a package installation, should a sting occur, it may be used to help mask the alarm pheromone at the sting site.

If I installed the candy end down should I go switch it or will she be fine? @John Pledger
@GDHoneyAcresandCraftWork4 жыл бұрын
if she has attendants you need to switch it. If one of them dies and plugs the hole where the candy is she may not escape. I'll be covering things like that in the future on my channel. So you should turn it sideways and make sure the cage part of the queen cage is to where the bees can get to it to feed the queen through the mesh.
@dkeck21744 жыл бұрын
When finished do you feed them for awhile?
@GDHoneyAcresandCraftWork4 жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWmlcoKQZrGAjas here is what my wife and i did. I was taught that you feed them a quart at a time of 1:1 and do that until they get their frames drawn. Every 3-4 days for a quart when feeding them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5CkYpWYpt6eZ80 here is the 1:1 set up and use of quart jars.
