Looks like PVC yep, especially since he used PVC cement (as used for PVC pipe joins) to glue it. A good option might be folding a sheet of aluminum over it to reflect light.

Great video, thank you. It's contractors like you who inspire me for the weekend projects. I'll be tackling this project soon since the prior owners used an interior door which swelled from water. It looks like you're using King Star Board / Marine Lumber. Would you recommend doing this for a door that is taller? I'd be accessing the crawlspace weekly so it would be getting more traffic then the usual crawlspace. The door would measure 60 X 40. Thanks for your help

It should work, but you may want to add a little more reinforcement through the middle of the door instead of just around the edges like in the video.

Thanks for the vids and online store. The dehumidifier I bought from you Friday was delivered Saturday! I'm building a door like this presently. It appears the wood frame contacts the block directly and there is no barrier between the two. Should there not be one to prevent the wood from taking on moisture from the block similar to how a sill board is typically isolated?
@domepiece11
@domepiece11 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Water will just run off the siding over all that wood. I would want to put top flashing like a window to divert the water. A sill seal is a good idea too.

I would think concealed hinges and a lock would be more appropriate. The theft of copper pipe is something to consider. It is hard to sell a house around here without a lockable crawlspace access door. Otherwise, nice job.
@JP_Patriot
@JP_Patriot 11 ай бұрын
Someone that won’t buy a house because there isn’t a lockable crawl space door is also VERY foolish. It isn’t hard to make it how you want. Definitely not hard enough to pass up a deal on a house 😅 I’m about to make one of these (a little different than his) and wanted to see what he used for a door. Looks like pvc or some kind of particle board or something. You’re right though. It needs concealed hinges with a deadbolt on it. His door is too skinny to add a deadbolt, it seems. Mine will be made out of 1/2 inch or less plywood with 2x4s supporting it with a deadbolt and handle with weatherstripping around the jam. My brother bought a house with no door on it at all. To say it’s “hard to sell a house” cause of a crawl space door is ridiculous 😅 yuppies are ridiculous sometimes....

Excellent video! I have a simple question, we recently had our crawl space insulated but the contractor said the crawl space door is letting a lot of cold air in, due to it being old and not very durable and also having about a 2" gap from the bottom of the door and the ground. Anything you can recommend that I, myself can do to help insulte the door better? Would self stick foam strips work or is there something I can use on the bottom to cover the 2" gap?? I'd rather not pay for another contractor to come replace the door, so any tips or ideas would be fantastic! Thanks in advance.
