Great video - wish they were all done this well. Thanks! What would you install as a door stay, for French doors that open outside and are prone to getting blown about in the Glasgow wind?
@DGPSUK4 ай бұрын
@@RetroNels thanks 😊 🙏 To be honest there isn't much on the market, we do a hold open restrictor that works in mild wind (link below) but anything crazy like last night you really need to use a permanent fix like cabin hooks 😊 www.double-glazing-parts-spares.co.uk/Hold-Open-Door-Restrictor

Hello, thank you for this video and taking the time to answer questions. I'd like to know if the restrictor stops the door from slamming shut. Thank you.

Hi, it doesn't but we do offer a similar restrictor which does... www.double-glazing-parts-spares.co.uk/Hold-Open-Door-Restrictor

My back door opens outwards, and gets battered against the sill in the wind. Would this be strong enough to withstand a gust?

Hi, it will stop the door going by 90 degrees but doesn't hold the door open.

It doesn't look very well desigened to me, as a stromg wind gust would create massive leverage on the device, probably breaking it. Furthermore, the sliding pice should be installed in the frame (not the door). Then it won't get so exposed to the elements, birdshit, etc.

Hi, these restrictors are not designed to hold doors open but rather to prevent them from swinging around and hitting the wall. While there are proper hold-open devices that can withstand winds, nothing is entirely foolproof. These restrictors are made of stainless steel, so corrosion is rarely an issue. On timber and aluminum profiles, you may find integrated restrictors, but PVC profiles typically use the standard eurogroove, leaving no place for such components to be concealed. The main cause of wear on these restrictors is overextending or applying excessive pressure, which can push them beyond their preset limits.

@@DGPSUK Thanks for the info. I need something that will withstand powerful wind gusts. Can you suggest something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
@DGPSUKАй бұрын
@alseveron6558 Hi, the strongest cheapest solution would be cabin hooks, there isn't much out there that will hold these secure on a budget, I'm actually struggling to think of a product. Cabin hooks are what we install in extreme cases.
@alseveron6558Ай бұрын
@@DGPSUK I appreciate the suggestion - thank you. I actually opted for a restrainer, similar to the one in your video. It looks stronger than I expected, but I'll keep the friction adjuster on fairly stiff, and make sure not to leave the door wide open in storm force winds...
