Great video. I went from extremely confused to feeling good about it. Question, I am doing a metal roof with no sheathing on my cabin, just using 2x4 “runners” is this still needed to allow air flow under the metal and felt between the insulation? Thanks!

Hello, great vid, wondering if I can install these baffle vents in a tuffshed that has 2x4 trusses?
@D.I.Y._All-in-One11 ай бұрын
Should be able to.

Each time I attempt to fold these, they simply snap in half. How were you able to fold those all the way around with out snapping them? I have the 22” foam baffles by duravent that have the perforated middle, which can be optionally separated for 16” spacing.

That's the problem I'm running into right now. I'm considering just stapling them to the roof like the picture in the package shows

I'm redoing my attic insulation due to insulation age, incorrect insulation install (old aluminum reflective backing facing the roof not my living space) and mold in my attic. I remediated the mold but noticed I didn't have baffles in the attic and I do have the vented soffits. Would I be OK just insulating the attic walls and floor, adding the baffles, and installing a new attic fan? If so, how high up should I add the baffles on the interior roof? I was thinking about adding insulation to the interior roof, is that something that is normally done? Thanks for the help.

how should we install blocking between rafters/trusses for shear transfer?
@glengarbera73673 ай бұрын
Do you need to staple? I have a very low pitch roof. I literally need to move around on my back or stomach near the soffit.
@ColMustard5133 ай бұрын
It needs to be flush with the roof. If your insulation can push it against the sheathing, then that will work, but best practice is to staple.

My garage is 4/12 pitch with standard rafters. I am only putting insulation in between the ceiling rafters on top of my dry wall. I shouldn't need to use these as the whole area above the top.of the 2x4 lower truss beams will be open as I have stiff stored up there, correct? Have soffitt and ridge vent.

Thank you. If you have a skylight (roof window) in the cavity how do you vent uner and above the skylight?
@ColMustard5133 ай бұрын
You would install right at the soffit vent like all the others. Basically anywhere you need air to flow without insulation blocking it.

why do you need baffles in the roof but not in the walls?
@StacyForest73811 ай бұрын
Because you want air to move from the soffit drawing in air, over the insulation, and exit a ridge vent or attic fan. It's for ventilating the attic. You dont need to move air in your walls, the walls are full of insulation.

In a cold area with snow on the roof, the air gap helps to create a cold roof and prevent the snow from melting.

The buttons are default 1" spacers. Maybe 2" performs better. But the real purpose of these is to contain attic insulation: limit distribution/stop it above exterior wall, which helps maintain thickness around perimeter.

Do you go all the way up to the Ridge vent? I'm turning a 14x40 shed cabin into a home and I saw these and thought they might work goid up in the ceiling since there isn't much room up there once I enclose the ceiling up.
@D.I.Y._All-in-One2 жыл бұрын
No, you would only run them all the way up to the ridge vent if you have vaulted ceilings, if you have some attic space there's no reason to run all the way up.
@doodybird57662 жыл бұрын
@@D.I.Y._All-in-One Ok, thank you for answering. I won't have an attic space. I just got a case of these and I'm putting them in place. After I get these up I'll order the flat ones to go up the rest of the way to the ridge vent. My shed / cabin is a 14x40 and the ceiling is lined with a silver thermal shield. Down here in Alabama the temps have been 98-100 plus degrees and that thin thermal shield is great. I walk in there and it's actually cool inside. I think after I get the Durovent installed it will cut down on a lot of the humidity as well. Thank you again!

Do attic baffles block any radiant heat if you run them between your rafters, up towards the roof ridge vent? I have a bunch of extra baffles, so i was going to use them up in that manner if they blocked some of the roofs radiant heat.
@D.I.Y._All-in-One2 жыл бұрын
They are really thin so they do not work good for insulating anything hot or cold. But they do act as a guide for airflow, which can help cool sections of the roofing, if you were to install it as you mentioned it would cool the roofing, but it would also block airflow to the rest of the attic, unless you are insulating only the ceiling portion of the attic and keeping the attic at room temperature or if you have vaulted ceilings it could be beneficial.
