How to install a fishfinder // Adding upgrades to your boat can often seem like a head-scratcher, but it doesn't have to be! Let Fishing FinAddict be your guide on installing a fishfinder. We'll also show you what comes with your Garmin Striker and how to start up the unit.

Here's an overview of the steps we took:
1. Determine the best location for the transducer, the (Fishfinder) unit & wiring.
2. Mount the unit to the vessel.
3. Run the transducer cable & power lead.
4. (Assure the battery is off/disconnected) Connect the power lead.
5. Utilize the transducer mount template to determine & mark its location.
6. If necessary, fill any holes that will not be utilized.
7. Drill the needed holes.
8. Attach the transducer mount to the vessel.
9. Attach the transducer to the transducer bracket.
10. Attach the transducer bracket to the mount.
11. Secure the transducer cable to the transom & install the cable-entry cover.
12. Turn on/connect the battery. Then turn on the unit.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzbin.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

I have this same model... I have a small Battery required to power up the Garmin because of possible interference. Not sure if i am going mount it(transducer) to the Bow Trolling Motor or directly to the transom like you did.

Are you using a bus bar for multiple gadgets. Can I just hook the wiring directly to the battery?

Vance Kaetsu the brown and blue wires are used to connect to NMEA 0183 devices, and to share route and waypoint information (an “in” and “out” wire to such a device).

how did you hook up those small exposed wires to your battery? I'm surprised they didn't come with any sort of clips or clamps!

Hey Mark, I went to the hardware store and put in a shrink wrap ring connector. It is secured to a buss bar that runs all power for my lights and switches to the battery.

I just got mine installed today and he installed the bracket to mount the transducer according to template provided. According to this your bracket is a bit high but you are still able to adjust transducer by loosenibg the screws. I hope he set mine the proper way. Are you getting a good signal?

Yep! No issues. The template isn't a perfect match for all boats. You have to take into account variances in the transom and hull that will disturb waterflow. I wouldn't worry about your placement too much, unless you're having issues.

What is the size of the drill bit you used?

Oeun Koun you can drill through . Or you can get marine adhesive and glue a block on the stern then put screws in that

I use a 12 v deep cycle marine battery (85 Amp hours). It is actually my starter battery and is capable to handle the fish finder too without any problems. I do have a separate battery for my trolling motor...

The resolution is the standard 1080p. So if there's a res issue it would be with playback (internet speed). As far as lighting there's only so much you can do in a garage and we're not getting paid for this so we don't have money to invest in light boxes.
