I just installed the LED corn lights, thank you soooo much for this video. I couldn't have done it without this video.

Thanks for the video. Just moved into a place that has a pl-c bulb socket and this will do to show me how to bypass the ballast on the fixture so I can convert to a standard bulb.
@AlD-y5e7 күн бұрын
You can remove the transformer but you have to file it down. Just one side where it is welded. Then once that side comes off you snap off the other side. The fixture is much lighter without it

I like the metal halide lights for growing plants. I'd like to know, if it's possible to bypass the photocell on the top of the unit so I can have the fixture o. A timer

Just install a shorting cap in the socket.

Does this conversion process remove the buzzing noise that old metal halide lights tend to make?
@TheWXRadioCollecter Жыл бұрын
Yes because you are disconnecting the ballest

Do you guys have any warm white corn cob bulbs for those who like warmer tones and might not be fond of the daylight White?

Would an install on generator be the same. Currently running 1000w metal halide bulbs, the power running from generator is 207v. Could i install a replacement LED and bypass the ballast just like your video?
@ComaBIack19693 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video! I'm facing the exact situation and can no longer find the old bulbs to replace the last one. So the bottom line is, i either remove the ballast or get a new fixture lol

@@henkers420 Thanks for that video link... I decided to just put a new fixture up instead of fooling with trying to rig a light that may or may not work.

No ignitor? Was the old bulb a 175 probe start?
@SB223_062 жыл бұрын
No, it was a Mercury vapor fixture.
@BROKEN.WRENCH.GARAGE2 жыл бұрын
Oh,looked like it was a probe start 175w metal halide bulb, and they was wrong saying it's a metal halide fixture?
@SB223_062 жыл бұрын
@@BROKEN.WRENCH.GARAGE I think they knew it was Mercury vapor but they probably didn't mention it because of the ban.

Why the bypass? If all the lights are not dusk/dawn controlled but rather switch on/off... can't you just replace the bulbs?
@Schwob944 жыл бұрын
If you don't bypass the ballast, it will light your LED lamp on fire when it tries to ignite the halide lamp that was removed

I appreciate the video but a wiring diagram would help immensely. Your video makes it seem like your photocell only has 2 wires. Mine has three.

I don’t see why you can’t just purchase a new LED fixture?

You absolutely can! Retrofitting is just a great cost effective alternative to doing so!

Many like the look of the old fixtures better.
@jameshill49003 жыл бұрын
Retrofitted 2 so far. Inexpensive and I am happy with the brightness. I like that the older style fixtures are well built and physically last for many decades. I did also buy separately a fairly expensive led fixture. Very bright. Not sure of its longevity yet. I don't think a cheaper $100 led fixture made today would last very long.
@BROKEN.WRENCH.GARAGE2 жыл бұрын
Sad thing is all the flouresent area lights and newer led fixtures are Chineseium now a days and don't last like the old mv mh and hps fixtures would.
@barryfirth11872 жыл бұрын
I looked into a new fixture, led and $120...if it malfunctions, you have to replace the fixture. Or retrofit and the bulb is $14.🤔

I want to see how bright the light is at night. I'm hearing bad things about these corn lights. They say you'll use less energy, but you lose brightness cause 90% of the LED lights are facing outward. Can you show a before and after installation of brightness between the two bulbs?
@jameshill49003 жыл бұрын
I have a 10000 lumen bulbs in 2 of these types of fixtures. The brightness it is very good. In another fixture especially enclosed I could see lots of lumen loss. My guess.
