Thank you for catching all of this! I'd really hate to be the plumber who has to tell you that he needs to get at that pipe that is now three feet deep in what I'm sure is some high-zoot concrete!

Incredible amount of work, once you get the quote on the machine then the quotes for the shipping, rigging, and foundation come in. Oh yea and the cost to dispose of the dirt and other fees. Thanks for sharing, Charles.

Thanks for posting that. Machine foundations are a critical part of precision, but aren't nearly as flashy and glamorous as the machine itself. Looking forward to the installation and setup video.

I used to work for a company that had similar concrete isolation for a co-ordinate measuring machine. The accuracy of the climate control was also on another planet. Super cool to see. Must be a bit scary as a business owner to commit the investment you are making into such a machine. Keep up the precision tool making! I am only an amateur but I enjoy seeing the effort, time, skill and experience that goes into what you make. Thanks Mark

I remember when we had a K&T YMC installed in the 80s. The serviceman could not get it leveled. The anchors kept pulling out of the floor. Turned out a genius in purchasing decided to order the wrong (cheaper) grout for the anchors. It's the little things that can bite you. Around the same time we had a jig grinder installed. Every time one of the stamping presses rolled over it would show up in the work. The machine was moved to a more appropriate location

That is very nice work. When one has a machine as large as the one going in there it has to be isolated from other machines and from road vibration. Shown is one of the methods for isolation and mounting. No doubt I will be riding this channel to learn "new tricks."

I used to work as a surveyor for a structural steel company that specialized in industrial buildings. Did a lot of layout and final placement for some industrial machines up to 25 ton overhead cranes. Even with old school optical tools before digital it is possible to get to high tolerances on those bolts set in concrete with a steel plate levelled on top. Especially when you are laying in the grout afterwards. Not machinists tolerances but with a good N-3 level 64th's and better was reasonable. Even with that mass of concrete the vibration separation with the styrofoam is a necessity. Be thankful that you did not have to invest in some really heavy stuff. Steel mills can only be built where bedrock is close to the surface. The furnaces etc are actually bolted in to the bedrock. Laid out one job where we had 30 footings like this bolted into the bedrock. That was for a basic oxygen furnace on Lake Erie in Ontario, Canada. Looking forward to see the installation of the equipment.

It is amazing what goes into the erection of these things. A buddy's brother does that kind of work. He said they even need the exact coordinates of the installation for their programming. Not a old Monarch by any stretch. Looks really good. I can hardly wait to see the rest of the process!!

Has to be Alphabet AI to recommend this video, I was just talking about this, had to have done a dozen of these for Boeing and Boeing subcontractors, not to mention the Drivematic Riveting Machines, but we had to apply floor hardener with metal shavings in it for the concrete surface with Ashford Cure.

That is a MASSIVE horizontal. Very exciting! Did you go that big to nest more parts, or are there some big parts you need to do on it? Did you get the hard metal package to try and eliminate grinding ops on some parts?

I hope you realize with machines this large u need to set them up completely and then literally let them sit stationary, unused, for at least 30 days. That was the new mazak with adjust to the floor. Then you recalibrate the machine and compensate with offsets. Thanks

I love progress as long as I don't have to pay for it. This project, machine incuded, is a lot of moving parts. Very expensive... I'll stick to my lathe and bridgeport for a while. Mind you...... I don't really have a choice. My wallet says so. 😆

This process looks awfully crude. Wish there was a more elegant solution that didn't require such a ridiculously big block of concrete or such considerations. Maybe like a platform you can drop anywhere, with hollow beams filled with lead pellets and resin, or something, with modular ballasts to dampen any vibrations. Even better if they were electronically controlled to detect and adjust to take away interference. Computers nowadays have such high clock rates, they can see the vibration and offset it before it travels to the part.
