Flip the compression adjuster sideways in the cup full of oil and you'll see air bubbles come out of it. After the compression adjuster is tightened down, with the shock horizontal, compress and rebound the shock a few times, then loosen the compression adjuster just enough until the oring exposes and any air that was trapped and a little oil starts coming out, then tighten it back up real quick, this way you are getting out more air, because there could be air trapped in the compression adjuster when transferring the compression adjuster to the shock. 👍

you can fill the oil the old race tech way by filling the blatter first with the shock barely tilted to keep it from runningn out the shock body. that's how race tech suggested it and it works just like the up and down blatter.

Yeah, thanks for mentioning that. We just went with the Honda method but both methods will work great! -Charles

WP Shock Gold Valve Install Cheat Sheet 1. Use DVS sheet to set up shim stack a. Measure each shim individually b. Shim stack starts with largest shim sitting against the gold valve c. Number in parenthesis is the amount of shims of that specific size d. Second number is thickness e. Third number is outside diameter f. Set them up in descending order g. Repeat steps for rebound shim stack 2. Put shims on a pick in the correct order a. Spray the stack down with cleaner 3. Drill piston bleed (if necessary) a. DVS will reveal diameter b. Clean valve thoroughly after drilling 4. Reassemble shock until the point where it is time to install the shim stack and piston, then continue with the next step 5. Install base plate and washer from the stock assembly a. First washer, then base plate 6. Install compression shim stack a. Smallest washer first, largest washer on top 7. Install Gold Valve a. Compression side faces down (six ports) b. Rebound side faces up (three ports) 8. Install rebound stack a. Largest washer facing down, smallest washer on top 9. Install spacer washers as needed a. Might need to remove Gold Valve and shim stack again to put spacers against base plate b. Put additional washer on top of rebound shim stack 10. Install top nut as stated in DVS sheet or rebound separator valve a. Measure shaft height from top spacer/washer on shim stack b. Nut depth must be greater than shaft space i. For example, nut measures 10 mm, then shaft space must measure at least 9 mm ii. Nut depth must be at least 1mm greater than shaft space iii. Repeat step 9 if Nut depth and shaft space do not meet criteria c. Drill hole into rebound separator valve as needed i. DVS sheet will reveal drill diameter d. Apply Loctite to nut e. Clean threats of shaft and nut f. Torque to spec as stated in DVS sheet g. Clean off excess Loctite i. Blow out holes with compressed air 11. Install O-ring on Gold Valve a. Use grease on O-ring 12. Continue with assembly step 15 on WP shock rebuild cheat sheet

FYI - the part numbers start with the shim thickness, to help with less time measuring. i.e. KD25003 = 0.25 shims, KD305003 = 0.30 shims.

Why doesn't Showa and KYB just build their shocks with a version of Racetek on their OEM shocks. Imagine getting incredible suspension when you buy a bike new. Imagine.

My guess is cause it’s so Taylor made for a persons skill weight.

@@dekancaine exactly. It’s impossible for any manufacturer to setup suspension that will work for everyone. To many variables such as skill, type of riding, rider preference, weight, etc…

Do I need to align the lateral hole in the piston to the hole in the shock shaft by adjusting the spacing shims up and down.

What's the deal with the piston band? That doesn't look so good. Why not use a metal teflon coated band like the forks use?

If you don’t mind me asking what steps are different on the KYB? I’m installing mine this weekend on my 2016 crf450r which has a 50mm KYB shock.

@@bakerproductions9241 man, my memory is terrible, so I don’t remember specifics. It wasn’t anything major, though. I have a YZ250 on stock suspension, and the gold valves on my YZ450 and it’s WAY better. Sorry I couldn’t be more help,

@@mrcameraman4157 All good man, actually just finished mine 5min ago. Honestly pretty simple. Changed my spring to a 6.3 kg as well for my weight, hoping I will notice a difference. Going to the track Friday so I will see.

One thing that is clear as mud is, the 2 stage valving setup. Which your dvs sheet showed ”2 stage", but you didn't show the "cross over shim" nor does the race tech shim layout they provided. Since labeling on the shim packages are not useable and there is zero information on what shim is to be used on a 2 stage. It leaves the question on what shim to use as the cross over shim for the 2stage valving.

I drilled a hole through my gold valve but my DVS sheet tells me a 1.6mm hole must be drilled in the gold valve and a 2.8 mm hole must be drilled in the separator valve as well. Do I need to drill a hole in each or will the hole in the gold valve be enough?

I called RT. They said if there are bleed holes on your DVS sheets for both the piston and the rebund separator, drill them both.

There was not enough oil in the shock. Indicator: the bladder cap was sucked in after you released the pressure from it.
