Thank you, very helpful video to explain the bar spring setup. I'm a novice, and I use one of the cheapest spinning reels out there that came with a walmart rod. After tying my leader, I realized the line was not on the outside of the bail, so I had the genius idea to just unscrew the bail and screw it back on. This unhooked the spring mechanism, and I was in a hurry to go fishing so I took out the L-piece so I could still close the bail, just without the spring mechanism. This video helped me fix that, so once again many thanks!

This is one of those assemblies that you need to see done once to understand how to get it back together. For some reason i thought the plastic piece went up and down on the spring (like a click pen). I didn't realize it shifts in more of a side to side motion as the bail arm rotates in and out of tension. Once i saw that, it all made sense. also I completely overlooked the screw joining the bail arm wire to the other side. it made it so much easier to separate the arm from this moving piece that interfaces with the bail arm guide pin. Thank you Sir.

I always take the bail wire off before messing with a bail spring. Very good advice on this video! Thanks Dennis! Most of my vintage reels use the coil type bail spring but I do have a number of Daiwas and even some Penns that are like these. Honestly, to me, these are easier than a large saltwater reel with a heavy stiff coil spring. A Mitchell 488 is so difficult it often takes two people to set the bail spring correctly.

Hello Dennis... Thank you for your very informitive content! Your video assisted me in the succesful intallation of the bail spring of a 30+ year old graphite body Daiwa AG 760. Unfortunaly my bail does not flip over to the intake position automatically when I go to crank the reels's handle instead, I have to flip the bail manuelly. The spring sets when I open the bail but does not release when I crank. Not the end of the universe to flip the bail manuelly. Many a spinning reel have difficulty flipping over by themselves without a little help fom the angler. Any insight and recommendations would be appreciated.

Not trying to be over critical but I know if I was making a video, I would like construct feedback. Focus is good on this one but I have seen in some of your other videos the focus is off. @2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Yes - put the slider in the hole of the bail arm first and then set the arm to the rotor. When it is set, put the spring on the slider bottom and then compress it to fit in the bottom slot. You can watch this video in the link below. for another way to do it. Also, it the slider is falling out of the arm before you get to install it, use some fishing reel grease to act as a temporary glue that will hold it in place while you go to set it kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6PVkKWfr6uej9k Dennis

@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
My guess is that you do not have the pin on the back of the main gear set into the slot on the anti-reverse pawl. You need to align the pin on the back of the main gear so that you can see it through the hole on the face of the gear. You then need to "aim" the pin to the slot in the anti-reverse pawl and install the main gear making sure that the pin is in the slot. If you have it is the slot and it is still not working, lt me know Dennis

Dennis, what is happening if your bail is closing prematurely? I have a spinning reel whose bail has recently started snapping close during the cast. It doesn't happen every cast, maybe only every third or fourth cast, but it sure is frustrating to end up with the lure popping back and only twenty feet from the boat because the bail closed by itself and interrupted the lure's flight. Thanks for the videos!
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
You don't mention which reel, but there is likely a trip arm under the spool and inside the rotor that is not setting in lock position. Try removing the spool and spraying the assembly with a penetrating oil to loosen the dirt. If that doesn't do it, see where the trip lever connects. It may be that the end of the lever is bent and not locking in correctly. You can usually resend them if that is the case - Dennis
