What do you do if you installed one of these doors and the quick fit handle on the inside of the storm door hits the doorknob on the entry door when you open the storm door from the outside?

You have to check for that before you drill the holes and move it up or down.

@Baseball-wj1tf if you can't move it up or down you can switch it and have the handle on the other side of the entry door. Not ideal but when it will hit the knob you have to.

@@HANDYMANHEADQUARTERS I think it will be okay because my entry door is 36” and I believe these storm door handles are set at 40 1/2 which would put the crank handle just at or below the dead bolt which is one of those key ones not the button.

All these storm door install videos and nobody explains what to do if your width opening is too wide. Well, I'm here to tell you to add a 1in x 3in or 1in x 2in furring strip on the hinge side to narrow the width opening.

I have the opposite issue. My door jamb only measure 31 1/2 inches wide. This door can go as low as 31 3/4 inches. I'm thinking I can pull the trim on one or both sides and move outward a fraction.

If adjustment of the opening is needed, that's the hardest part of the installation, if the sides are not perfectly even and plumb to each other. There's no adjustment once the hinge rail is attached if the latch side isn't vertical and matching the hinge side. The opening needs to be perfectly plumb before doing anything else, checked with a long level.

I just found out something terrifying when replacing a storm closer bracket- (background information: we added siding to our house a few years ago (well more before the pamdemic), and added storm doors. then the door closer on our front one broke the bracket off) So upon replacing the bracket then storm door closer, I realized that the people who installed it DIDNT INSTALL THE SCREWS YOU HANG THE RAIL ON- nor a rail extender- due to realizing that the railing was bending and moving as I closed the door to get the speed it closed at right! It's a miracle it hasnt fallen out-

Thank you for your excellent video. I am installing a Larson Tradewind model. The gap on the sweep expander apparently isn’t wide enough to snap it on. You skipped that part but other videos make it look easy to push on. There’s a lip that has to hang onto the bottom trim. Then the back, straight part with the holes won’t reach to slide over the door bottom. Did you ever experience that? I appreciate your time and expertise.

@@HANDYMANHEADQUARTERS I think I can wedge a 1/8"-thick, wooden garden stake in to spread the gap enough to get the back side up and over the bottom of the door. Otherwise, there is no amount of pressure or finagling that would work. Thanks for the encouragement!

I am installing a storm door as well. I have a question. In your video are you installing the hinge bar to the exterior door trim or the actual frame of the door?

The hinge rail should be attached to the exterior brickmold on the door frame.

Are there videos on installing or construction of the brick moulding? That's the critical part, because it has to be perfectly square and level with the right size opening. That was the hardest and most time consuming part on mine.

I have this door coming in about a week. Since the holes for the handle/lock aren't predrilled, could I choose something simpler? And then just put the plastic piece on the other side where it's not supposed to be?

Hi! You can choose a different door but it will be of lower quality. No you have to drill the holes whether its a left or right hand door. But the kit comes with a drill bit and template. Just take your time drilling and watch your hands.

I really wish they would make the screw cover piece better . I recently install two screen doors and one door I could get them to lock in the other I could not get them to lock in at all . The were pella doors 🚪 .

Larson doors are the #1 item returned to Lowe's because of the time consuming installation process. You need to be a good carpenter or handyman to install one.

Larson platinum doors take about 15 minutes to install. So, your comment would not apply to all of Larson’s doors, as you imply. You get what you pay for, most of the time. Maybe contractors would benefit by explaining this to their customer base. My .02 anywho.

There should be two different sized pins for the closer, one for the hole in the closer closest to the door and the other where the adjustment screw is.

Thats a good video, explained a lot of good items. I am wondering, the only doors at Lowes are 32/36 X 81 inches. My back door measures 32 X 80 inches. Does the Larson door sweeper have an adjustment that will enable me to install it properly?

@@garyr4211 I wouldn’t do it haha, look at the prices for current labor cost for storm door installs. Especially during these times of inflation, nothing is coming down. When you have a business to run with insurance, it’s negligible to get paid that cheap for your own time. I mean would you drive out, use your own tools that you bought and do that for someone for $100? The costs are anywhere from $250-650 for just the installs locally here haha

Sorry! The trick is to get the back part "inside" on first and kind of snap in the front facing the ouside.
