You have to make sure you are using subterranean drip line. And you need to install AIR RELIEF VALVES on each drip line section at the highest point. Without these valves the air in the line will not be able to escape quickly blocking the water causing uneven distribution in the line. Netafim also makes an automated FLUSH VALVE to assist in clearing out smaller particles that would normally clog the emitters making the ball valve obsolete. This also needs to be on each drip line section at the lowest point. You also need to have a filtration screen after the station valve. This will trap all larger particles and needs to be accessible for cleaning.

Thank for the info! Once installed and the lawn established, how long/often would you recommend running the system?

It was my understanding that with Netafim CV tubing, you don't need to install a flush valve/box. Is that right, or do you always need to install a flush valve?

Sounds good BUT, what about roots eventually clogging the emitters?

+Michael Spencer Hi Michael! Thanks for reaching out. What is so great about NDS Dura Flo CV product is that there is No Root Intrusion. The combination of check valve and anti-siphon capabilities protects each emitter form clogging and root intrusion with no copper or treflan required. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our Technical Services department: techservice@ndspro.com

Artificial grass doesn't need watering, fertilising, mowing. For small areas like that I wouldn't bother with growing grass.

Here in Silicon Valley subsurface systems are not recommended. Their extremely expensive and impossible to troubleshoot if something goes wrong, because their below the soil. A local contractor lost his business when an underground system went terribly wrong on a commercial Jon. The system clogged and because it was underground, they would have had to remove and replace the entire system. The contractor filed bankruptcy. It's a great idea on paper, but a very bad idea in practice.
