Should my tile sub install the power and sensor lines? Or should my electrician? Doesn't the sensor line need to be feed to the control panel into the wall inside its own conduit away from the power lines?

I got into a discussion on a forum with an electrician/inspector over some info in the installation instructions that seems to contradict the use of a 20A breaker for a mat that small. He said that he would fail an inspection if a mat that size were installed on a 20A breaker. Instructions: "The circuit breaker in the main circuit panel should be 15 amps maximum for a floor warming system totaling 12 amps or less. For larger systems up to 15 amps, use a 20 amp maximum circuit breaker."

Cool. Simple to install. I'm going to use backer board over the floor tho. I'd never go directly on plywood/osb subfloor. Especially in a bathroom wtf

Yeah, I agree.....probably a "just give them the basic idea" video. Obviously if you're installing tile, you'd have Du-rock and waterproofing membrane down first.

Generally you can tile directly over plywood as long as it meets deflection requirements, but not osb

Does it make a difference whether I install the Sunstat Pro therm and mat on a 15A or a 20A breaker? I planned on running a 20A dedicated circuit, and I have a bunch of 12/2 wire I wanted to use up; I didn't want to use 12/2 wire on a 15A circuit. The mat I'm installing is only 10 sq ft.

IF I install a 20 amp receptacle on 20 amp/#12 wire,fed by a 20 amp breaker, ,then plug in a 5 watt light bulb to the receptacle, that is not a problem. There is plenty of power available ,opposite of a problem. You can also do what you suggested, Use #12 on a 15 amp breaker. The control unit gets powered first on the line side of the controller ,THEN "Drips" the power from controller to floor wire.

On this 15a v 20a issue... First determine the power required for the heating system in watts. Let's say 1500 Watts as an example. So 1500÷ 115vac would equal just over 13 amps. If the run is 75', NEC codes say 12g wire. You've got to take in account for the wire resistance and resulting voltage drop (based on distance to the panel) not to exceed 3%. There may be a code saying 14g wiring for only lighting circuits. Frankly, if you need to ask these questions, get an electrician. Wiring your house wrong could result in your insurance Co not covering a fire or other damage.

how do you "burn" the subfloor ? wait until it drys then lay mat over the dry burned subfloor?

Yes you can lay this directly on cement but insulation are recommended insulation boards can save up to 95% of energy .

We want to put this in a house that has tile and carpet now. We want to pull out the carpet and put this only where the carpet is will we see a significant difference in the height of the tile. another words, how thick is the product?

You should always pass the floor sensor through a tube in order for it to be easily replaced

How the hell you going to flatten a tube to fit under the thinset & tile??

@@Rico702Vegas You "dig" enough under it so that height of the cement you put over covers it. Plus, there are multiple size tube diameters.

I think it is a system that does not allow a very secure installation of the tile due to the mesh. Also they did not use the plastic trowel.

Why not pour self leveling over it, seems like a hassle to tile over that mat

I'm confused You said do not set mat in wet mortar or cement then you set it in thin set??

The mat is installed & attached to the subfloor and THEN covered with mortar for setting tile.
