I have a Giant XTC800 with all stock components. RD is shimano M6000 SGS. I want to convert to a 1x set up without changing the stock RD. If i'd be using an 11-42T cassette, what maximum teeth of chainring should i use without changing other components? I've seen some bike forum of recommended tweak to simply adjust the B Screw (or to replace the stock B Screw to a longer one which is M4-20mm to enable bigger adjustment) to prevent biggest cassette cog touching the RD top pulley. Any additional advice is appreciated sir
@pedalpowercycling2 ай бұрын
The largest chainring up front may depend on your bike frame clearance in relation to getting the best chainline. Some bikes it's as small as a 34 largest tooth chainring. You can try a larger b-screw, but I wouldn't go from a 36t max to 42t. Have you considered the 11-40 cassette instead (w/out woolftooth)?

I'm not sure. What derailleur are you using and how many speeds? the Wolftooth is rated for up to 40T with single or 36T w/ double chainring. If you're 12 speed Mtb then those rear derailleurs should already handle 50T cassette.

Great video! Question, I run a 3x9 setup with the rear cassette having 11-34T and the front rings being 22-44T for a total of 45T, the problem is the RD (XTR, looks the same as yours) is only rated for 43T max. The problem is when my FD is on the large chainring, my RD will not shift to the two lowest (largest) cogs. Is that something the hanger extender (and a longer chain) will solve? Thanks

@dperreno Жыл бұрын
The only way to get the small-small to work would be to get a longer derailleur cage. The cage he has doesn't have enough capacity to absorb the change in chain length. The Wolf tooth just moves the derailleur further from the large sprocket on the cassette so that the derailleur pulley doesn't bind.
@61tree_VR_Gliding2 жыл бұрын
Incredibly helpful video, thank you for sharing!
@bengt_axle2 жыл бұрын
Remember that because you are moving the derailleur outboard, you have to adjust both the High and Low limit screws. These adjustments control the path of the chain relative to the frame. If not right, they can cause the chain to jamb in between the frame and cassette or not shift properly.
