Been watching a lot of your videos lately, as i also have to do a teardown during winter. Last day before winterstorage i developed a ticking lifter, i now have a flat tappet hydraulic, no amount of adjustment (with engine running) can quiet it down, including bottoming out the rocker on the stud. So i did as you did, call butler and orderd a topend kit edelbrock heads 310+ cfm with port matching (TorkerII) same cam as you +++ have still to begin teardown. migth upload some snippets to my channel been years since uploded anything. And keep on uploading, i get a lot of tips watching your channel.

Thanks for all you do for old school V8 guys. I plan on installing Holley efi, so this is a plus and will definitely be calling Rick's. I also wonder if Holley or Fitech harness will power electric Pontiac water pump. Oh yeah, please let Rick know the tank didn't work.
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob... things not fitting quite right is more of an expectation with my car. 😅 To answer your question about the FI harness controlling electric water pumps... I think so. I say that because the FiTech unit I have can control two fans, with two different temp ranges. So, if you use one fan circuit for the fans, and the other for the pump, I think it'll work. When I put mine in, one of these days, I'm also going to wire it so I can manually, or use a turbo timer, to keep the pump going after I turn the engine off. Fun stuff!

@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
I assume you have a carb? Fuel injection doesn't need the massive line volume, until you start pushing 800hp, etc... A Carb engine needs a bigger pipe for the mechanical pump to pull from. Thanks for the comment!

The AN-6 conversion fitting at 10:30, where did you get that, I want to do the same thing. Thanks!

Have you had any vapor lock issues with no return line?
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
Nope. :)
@mattcornett71802 жыл бұрын
Mike- I’ll be converting my 69 mustang to fuel injection. I’m also going to run an in tank Holly pump that is returnless. It seems like the returnless systems are more prone to vapor lock… what are your thoughts on return vs returnless? Also… I’m looking to add a vent to my tank. What are you doing for a vent or does the new tank have a provision for it? I’m reading that these old cars usually have a vented gas cap but when converting to an in-tank pump, there is a bigger need to vent. Supposedly the pump generates heat enough to raise the temperature of the fuel and thus creating additional expansion/contraction.
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of Vapor Lock being an issue, UNLESS your tank is not vented properly :) I almost got the Sniper pump you're referring to, but opted for the Baffled Tank from Ricks. Let us know how it goes!
@carlcasanova69762 жыл бұрын
@@FastMonty Hey Matt. Vaporlock from a practical standpoint does not occur forward of the high pressure pump. Where problems occur is at the inlet to the pump due to suction. As in-tank fuel temperatures increase the chances of fuel boiling at the inlet to the pump greatly increase. With a full return system that circulates fuel through a hot engine compartment, the fuel load becomes a giant thermal battery. Though the setup Mike has is all in-tank, it is technically a return type. For larger pumps, it's best to go true returnless where the pump becomes variable speed to match the targeted fuel pressure.

Hey Monty why didnt you use a mech fuel pump for the low pressure side to the sump. This would have got rid of the noise and saved alot of hassle. I just picked up an MSD Atomic efi kit and trying to figure out what way I want to run my fuel set up. Its going into a rock crawler so I like the idea of the sump as well. I can carry the carb on the trail if efi takes a crap and my mech fuel pump would be ready to go if needed. Whats your thoughts? Thanks just sub'd to your channel.
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the FMG family! Great question... I suspect you're referring to the Force Fuel unit reservoir as the sump. In my installation playlist, I decided to get crazy and mount it in the trunk. So, running a line from the Mechanical pump, didn't make sense. Anyway, that's why I had that loud Holley pump, filling up the sump. Problem solved. Ha, ha... To your point, mounting the Force Fuel unit in the engine compartment is definitely what that's designed for. Otherwise, Plan B should be this video. Thanks for the comment!

@@FastMonty Thanks for the reply. Yes I would be installing it in the engine bay. I heard a lot of horror stories from the first FI tech command center that had no return line. I see the new unit is upgraded and assuming has a return. You end up selling it?
