The oil fumes of the car I'm currently restoring were going back to the filter of the carburator. As I'm not keen on keeping this stock "system" or letting the fumes and drops fall on the ground (as some people do), I wondered what to do. Now I have one option. HUGE THANKS MARTY & MOOG!

I know this is an old video, but there is another reason to have a catch can. If you have a direct injection engine the fuel does not "wash" the intake valve off. This can lead to coking up the intake valve. I am putting a catch can on my 2019 Nissan Altima for that reason.

Marty, Moog. You have come so far. Watching your show has been something i look forward too all the time. I love seeing that youtube notification with you guys on it. As i've watched your videos i tried to absorb as much as i could from all you do. I totally noticed that you both talk so much more confidently about the things your doing, and plan to do. A bit unlike back in the day when it was like you two in the garage and maybe a tripod with you. You cover so many more bases in your explinations. Subaru Boosting Heel toe is no way useful on drag racing, it is on tracks though. Maybe you should check if there already are videos on what your are looking for.
@Piazzapower9 жыл бұрын
Subaru Boosting 4000 rpm drop the clutch and floor it, adjust as appropriate depending on how much wheelspin you get. Double clutching won't help unless your syncromesh is shot. Heel toe is just blipping the throttle with the side of your foot as you brake for a corner and downshift. There are plenty of vids and tutorials out there.
@encapsulated9 жыл бұрын
I don't really get the part where you talk about the PCV. To me, the whole PCV system is made of 2 subsystems: the breather (takes clean air from the air box or whatever filtering system you have) to adjust pressure in the engine crank case when it's too low and the output you are describing here, that rejects the extra pressure of the crank case in form of oil vapour. Usually the output port is connected to the intake manifold itself but I'm not familiar with turbos and it would make sense to connect here like a breather so you don't depressurise the manifold. You can also set a dual system up, because in some extreme cases, the blowby gets back through the breather, which is even worst because it would then be sucked in back into the engine through the MAF sensor and throttle body (which looks like your setup actually but again, maybe it's specifi to turbo engines).

@bigandfluffy20009 жыл бұрын
Marcell Meszaros the transmissions are crap as well, if you're unlucky and you get a crap transmission, the added power of a turbo will snap it like a twig.. im just saying that if its built to handle a turbo (like in the 7's), then its a good candidate for power based mods. the miata was fine to turbo because that engine is also used in factory turbo'd ford lazer.. for another example my friends 79 mazda 626 used the same engine as the ford courier which came factory with high compression pistons.. if its built to handle it out of the factory then is a solid foundation.. i wouldn't trust a turbo d15.. added note** im not complaining about the engine in the rx8, im criticizing the the drive train and handling capability's even though i made no mention of it in my post.. im too tired to edit it to reflect that..

Catch can between PCV port/valve and post throttle body is actually what should be done first, what these guys did is fresh air side, in fact the oil will go both ways, from the air cleaner to the catch can and into the rocker covers and backwards as well, under idle and slight throttle the air will go backwards to what they think, From the air cleaner, down to their fresh air setup, into the rocker covers, through the crankcase then up to the PCV port because at idle the car will be pulling vacuum, and then burnt via the port into the plenum.
@ltwracing8 жыл бұрын
Some wrong info with this video. You can in fact use the pcv location for routing the hose. You can even delete the pcv. not every car has random holes in the rocker cover so the pcv location is the only way. This is more for a turbo car. DO NOT follow this video instruction if you have an N/A car.
@bic947 жыл бұрын
MrDruaboyea2U You definitely do not want to delete the pcv valve... The valve has different flow characteristics depending on throttle. If you get rid of it all together you'll be pulling way too much vaccum, thats why everybody has the problem with it filling too fast. Too little vaccum, smoke. Too much, can fills too fast.

Catch cans might help with direct injection port fouling, too... They do make catch cans with a bottom port, if you can find somewhere to return the oil you can run it back to the pan and not have to drain it. You can get a pretty slick hose cutter from the hardware store in the drip irrigation supplies nice and cheap Silicone hose is available, braided or not, it will hold up to the heat and the oil and comes in a variety of pretty colors. Braided bends better.

My car (2002 Saab) has a "catch can" built into the PCV system. It takes pressurized air from the cam cover and puts it through a tube into a plastic container attached to the side of the motor. When oil is caught it has a return tube that actually drips it back into the oil pan so you never have to empty it. Also so it doesn't mess up the map or maf it has a series of one way check valves installed to keep pressure from jamming its way into the wrong places. I'm not 100% sure where those one way check valves are in the scheme of the system, but I do know I've had to replace basically all of my PVC system before. The tubes get old and dry out, and they will eventually fall off and cause a horrible vacuum leak!
@KelzCasa9 жыл бұрын
An AOS or catch can works like a natural gas scrubber, or a filter/coalescer. The swirl pot effect helps separate the oil through centrifugal force (scrubber) or use your scourers to "coalesce" the oil out of the gas/vapor stream.
@OnceIHadAPony9 жыл бұрын
Very informative! Thanks guys. I actually learned from the internet today.
@Xintr0s9 жыл бұрын
A couple things, You want to buy a catch can that has a baffle installed already rather than adding something inside to filter the air, although that's probably not too bad as long as its large enough that it wont get sucked into the tubing, or flake anything off that could end up in your intake. Second, I wouldn't concern yourself with the oil that is caught in the catch can, it's much more susceptible to being oxidized and contaminated while in the catch can. Check your oil when you change it.
