Nice tidy job. I’m not a sparky but I like reading the comments on these types of videos because sparky’s always disagree with other sparky’s work when they all learn the same regs.

Very helpful video thanks. Would have been good to see a close up of the wiring on the FCU. So does the switch with 3A fuse control the lighting but the power to the socket on the decking just passes through? I am complete amateur by the way so hope my question even makes sense. Thanks
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing3 ай бұрын
Yes it does 👍
@SuperGP1000 Жыл бұрын
is the original double socket a spur? if yes, the feed should go to the FCU then fused output connect to the double sockets and new extension, otherwise fused spur on a unfused spur may not be a good idea
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing Жыл бұрын
The existing socket was a 4mm radial circuit. You are correct though, if it was a spur from say a ring circuit then the method of wiring for the new socket & FCU would be slightly different 👍

Pretty decent. But certainly wouldnt put single insulated conductors box to box like that without bushing it...
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing Жыл бұрын
What would a bush do?
@peterigrenyi9176 Жыл бұрын
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing u have a gap between boxes therefore Single insulated cable unprotected between boxes. Bush would be like a condit. Although personally, I would ut s coupler between boxes. No way I'd do it like that
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing Жыл бұрын
There was no gap between the boxes, they are butted up to each other and sealed.
@peterigrenyi9176 Жыл бұрын
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing well still. Between enclosures... I just wouldn't. Same way I wouldn't do that between two patress boxes. Use double insulated cable, coupler, or Bush.

Some silicon can dissolve screws and wall due to the acid in them. Careful which one you use to waterproof stuff.

Which ones can do that? It’s not something I’ve ever heard of

@@moss_electrical_and_plumbing I'm late, but you're looking for neutral curing, not acetic curing
@davebodger216 күн бұрын
@@moss_electrical_and_plumbing Older bathroom sealant (often maked Hi-VOC) has a strong ammonia smell during curing and can mark wall/paint/screws/etc. as it has a quite caustic effect. I think it mostly wears off after curing as it is neutralised by chemical reaction to air. This is normally mentioned on the tube but some don't read or just don't care. I tend to use CT1 and that doesn't cause any problems that I've seen. You really have to read the manufacturers stuff on the tube carefully as they can use some quite nasty chemicals in some of this stuff.

Hi, I came across this video and its what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I've subscribed to the channel, because it very informative. I understand almost all of it except one aspect, and would appreciate if someone could please help. In the last segment 'Socket' where you put SWA socket to the left of the 2G socket, where does the Earth cable from the SWA gland go? I can see that you take the feed (L & N) and Earth from 2 gang socket on the right. The 3 core SWA cable has its own Earth plus Earth from the Steel Wire. Is the Earth from Gland combined with the Earth (1 of 3 cores) and then connected to the adjacent box? Thanks in advance.
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing Жыл бұрын
Thanks for leaving a comment, and a big thank you for subscribing! 😁 The Earth from the SWA is terminated with the Earth in the cable in one of the socket terminals 👍
@sharoztube Жыл бұрын
@@moss_electrical_and_plumbing Thanks, got it. So, I just combine (join) the Earth cable (1 of 3 cores) with the Steel Armour. And repeat at the other end. (I hope I understand you correctly. Cheers!
@muso31 Жыл бұрын
I think what moss is saying is that in the earth from the gland and SWA enter into the socket earth to terminate them. At the CU end both of these earth's will be connected to the earth terminal bar

@@moss_electrical_and_plumbingnah, just do the same % mark up and explain to clients how much better masterseal and hager are compared to BG. I also find BG irritating with its build designwith how youre supposed to put those little black screw covers over the wall screws and they tend not to stay in.
@moss_electrical_and_plumbing2 ай бұрын
I don’t mind it, it’s decent quality and a decent price. MK master seal has always been massively over priced and I haven’t seen Hagers offerings. I throw away the little blags seals. Even if they did work, which I doubt they do, I just apply sealant over the screws which is much more effective. The only thing I’m not keen on it that the knock outs are a bit bigger than 20mm, some glands don’t sit very well in them.
