How to Install Complete Joystick Kit on John Deere 6400 Tractor with 640 Loader

This joystick kit fits these John Deere tractor models and will work with any brand front end loader installed on these tractors: John Deere 6110, 6120, 6200, 6210, 6215, 6220, 6300, 6310, 6320, 6400, 6405, 6410, 6415, and 6420.
The first step is installing the power beyond block on the back of the 6400 John Deere tractor. To do this, you first need to remove the triangle piece on the back and replace the bolts holding the back blocks (sometimes called the tractor’s rear remotes) with longer bolts.

There are 3 ports on the PBY block - the Pressure, Return, and Load Sense ports. Install the straight fittings in these ports, then thread the load sense hydraulic hose up through the rear of the tractor towards the right front part of the cab (this is where the valve will be installed). Thread the tip of the load sense hose (this will be the thinner hose) onto the load sense port, which is the smaller port located near the bottom of the PBY block. Then thread the Return hose (larger), through the tractor in the same way. Attach the Return hose to the middle port on the PBY block. Finally, thread the Pressure hose up through the tractor the same way, and thread it onto the top port on the PBY.
The next step is to install the bracket that will hold the valve. Then install the valve onto the bracket.
Install the L-shaped adapter fittings into the Load sense, Pressure, and Return ports on the loader control hydraulic valve. The Load Sense port is on the inside of the valve, between the valve and the bracket. The Pressure port is on the side of the valve opposite from the Load Sense port, and the Return port is right under the Load Sense port. The 90-degree fittings allow the hoses, which are threaded up through the tractor from the PBY block, to come into the valve from a right angle. Attach each of the 3 hoses from the PBY block to the corresponding port fittings on the valve.
The next step is installing the adapters into the six ports that control the lift / lower, tilt / retract, and grapple open / close functions. These ports are on the very bottom of the valve. There are two adapters per port, a straight adapter which goes in first, and then a 90-degree fitting that the hoses going from the ports to the loader will attach to.
Before attaching the hoses to the valve fittings, install the quick coupler plate on the side of the loader mounts, and install the top two quick coupler sets. Then attach the hoses going between the quick couplers and the valve to the back of the first 2 couplers you installed. You don’t want to install all 6 at once or things will get too crowded. Then thread the other tips of the hoses onto the valve port fittings. Repeat until all six hoses between the valve and quick couplers are installed.
The final step with hoses is to attach the final six hoses to the steel lines on the loader. Once these are attached and hanging down the side of the loader, take off the female side of the quick couplers (one by one), slide on the color-coded dust cap on the male side, add the 90-degree fitting, and then thread the hose onto the fitting. Reattach the female side of the quick coupler to the male side of the quick coupler. Repeat this process for all six hoses. You now have all the hoses installed for carrying oil to and from the valve, as well as to and from the loader.
There are two steel brackets used for mounting the joystick on the front right post of cab. After installing the joystick on the brackets, drill a hole in the floor of the tractor and slide the cables down through the hole. Then coming from under the cab, work the joystick wiring harness through the hole. Plug the end of the wiring harness plug into the joystick pigtail. Then attach the power source cord (red) to the power source in your tractor.
Make sure you center the joystick and push the lockout tab in before installing the cables to the valve spools. Also, make sure the lockout tab is pointing backwards when you install the joystick - this ensures that the float function works correctly.
