even added the blooper at the end, relatable. i know this vid is 2 years old but it still convinced me that this is the way to go for overhead storage. the slow close feature is a nice touch, the wife won't slam them when i annoy her!

Best installation instructions. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out instructions and diagrams, but whoever wrote this manual didn't know how to think as a regular Joe. Especially, not telling you the flexibility of measurement based on your project. I wasted so much time until I came upon your video. Took me not even 2 min to install after watching it...thank you! 👏

One of the best videos I’ve seen on this subject ! I also added two gas shocks to my queen bed storage compartment and it’s hands free like my camper kitchen cabinet doors ! No more headaches or smashed fingers for me.

In my case I didn't need the mounts. The ones that came with the struts worked fine. I followed the measurements in the instructions and at first had to move the "catch bracket" that keeps the door closed while in transit (they were on both sides, right in the way of course). After I did two, I realized I could keep the catch bracket and just mount the round mount just above it and it worked fine. I had smaller cabinets in our bedroom, just barely 8" tall, but the brackets "just fit" so it was a win all around. Thanks USNERDOC for the video!

bought the gas struts and the extra mounts. The struts work great, but the mounts are too big so I ended up just using the pieces that came with the struts and they worked fine. Thanks for your video. It gave me confidence to do it.

Thanks for the video... actually using this method to mount a chalk board over the space where our micro wave used to be before we remodeled our kitchen and mounted new microwave over our stove. Being a long time travel trailer owner I am thinking you must have taken some towels out of cabinet that kept your glasses from bouncing around and breaking while in transit. Thanks for video it sure helped.

Nice job! Looks like you have an Airstream... we do too and the overhead cabinet in the bathroom will soon be upgraded based on your video. Another thing we did was install 6X9" mirror sheets (plastic lightweight with self-adhesive backing) on the inside of our overhead kitchen and bath cabinets for shorter folks to see what's in the cabinet.

Great video. I had a question. I want to open the door of a battery box, so the door opens upward and is perpendicular to the floor, parallel to the wall. I will be using a piano hinge for the top. Would I need the grey hinges that you had, or would the piano hinges and these gas struts suffice in keeping the door open?
@USNERDOC2 жыл бұрын
Piano hinge and struts should be the perfect solution.

Does it make a difference what size gas struts you get because I’m building cabinets that are 16” high? Thanks for any information.
@USNERDOC3 жыл бұрын
Size does matter in this case! You want to pick a strut that is sized for the weight of your cabinet door. Most strut companies have guidelines to help with your selection.

Do they stay closed when on the road or do we need something else to help keep them closed? Great video!
@USNERDOC3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes the cabinet doors stay closed while on the road. We have never had the doors open and spill contents while traveling. I think the struts have been helpful for that as well.

This is a VERY helpful video! Just one question though...I need to install the gas struts exactly for the reason you mentioned. However, I don't think that my cabinet edges are solid wood like yours; Likely some kind of composite (Keystone trailer). Any suggestions for this issue? Thanks in advance!
@USNERDOC3 жыл бұрын
You might want to consider adding some reenforcement material behind your cabinet frames for support. The struts were a huge improvement for us.

Hi, great video. Thanks for sharing. Just curious about the strenght of the struts you had for those smaller doors. You installed 100n force? Isn't that really stiff? I just purchased some 50N struts for some kitchen cabinet doors (lifting upwards) and the strut is so stiff, I can't imagine how much force you would need to push the door down again to close it? I'm sure there is something I don't quite understand here...
@USNERDOC3 жыл бұрын
The struts work perfectly. Very little force to open and close the cabinet doors and the doors stay open without difficulty.
@alexcorona2 жыл бұрын
I installed a pair of 100n(s) on a single door and I have no issue opening/closing.

So… I have recently purchased 100 N gas struts for my kitchen cabinets. The amount of force needed to compress one of these struts is fairly high. What am I doing wrong?

@biologistjim49054 жыл бұрын
Sheet metal screws? Was that because there was sufficient purchase in hard wood?
@USNERDOC4 жыл бұрын
Great question! I just like using pan head sheet metal screws ... personal choice. I for sure could have used a round head wood screw. I just like the flat pan head for most applications. Thanks for watching!
@cubul324 жыл бұрын
What's your take on 1 vs 2 struts? I'm building something with horizontal doors (vs your vertical) and they're a bit heavier (say 20 x 30 inch 5/8 baltic birch with 4 inch of latex foam on top, so a few lbs extra). The hinges are strong, just not sure if the strut won't introduce some weird torque.
@USNERDOC3 жыл бұрын
I think it really depends on the weight of the door and the lift capacity of the strut. You might benefit from two struts.
@alexcorona2 жыл бұрын
I would Install 2 just because amazon has them really cheap, $6 for a pair. I have (2)100n on a 2x3' 5/8: solid mahogany desk door. It holds very well...... and that thing is HEAVY.
