Tip: Take a picture of the bar code on the back the detector. If you change your wifi name/password you will need to remove and re-add the nest detector. Easier to pull up a picture than to pull out the ladder X times.

FYI: Nest has since updated this process (finally) for all gen 2’s to be able to do this wirelessly now through a software update!

I really liked how you showed your phone display on the side while adding the sensors; well done!

Great video! Can more than 1 phone be connected for alerts, say for renter/home owner or Husband/wife that travel independently? Do the alarms still work/go off if WiFi or cell service stops working? Thanks!

Nice videos on the nest protect, do you think this cleaning will clear the “CO2 Sensor Failure” on my Protect? It’s only 2 years old…

Great video! I bet I can do this myself with the help of your video! Thanks!! D.E. Drost

Great video, used it as a refresher when I installed all 9 of my gen 2 wired ones. What have I learned so far, Nest protect does not like to be anywhere close to a bathroom with shower. Even with the steam feature enabled, when my daughters get out of the bathroom with the fan on, it still goes off every time. I did notice the firmware is from 2021 on my units but for some reason they won't update. If I can't get this fixed, I guess disable 1 out of 9. Kind of defeats the purpose but what are you going to do?

Rather than apply sticky notes, each Protect has an area on the back you can label Installation Date and Location

Great info on this,quick question, do I need to have any nest products or I can just buy the detectors and use them just out of the box? I asked since I don't have a nest thermostat or cameras. Thank you.

great video sir. we were planning to install this on a resort with 100 rooms. can a single app supports 100 nest protect device?
@nickbrous3 жыл бұрын
The nest app supports 18 devices per home. You can have 3 homes (18*3 = 54 devices) with a nest based sign in. A google sign in will let you create 5 homes (18*5 = 90). I believe your only option is to sign up through google these days, so the answer to your question is 90. You can also create another google account with a different email address allowing you to add the remaining 10. You could possibly relate the different areas of the resort to the “homes” you create in the app.

I cannot get my nest protect device to recognize my Wi-Fi or my nest-#### Wi-Fi I don’t know if It is working. My Nest thermostat and camera shows in nest App and Google home! But not protect after many attempts

Great video. Thanks for the info. I'm getting ready to install 8 Nest units in a new home that doesn't yet have wifi. But the Nests need to be installed so we can get the Certificate of Occupancy. Can I set up (program) the Nests in my rental (where I have wifi) and then bring them to my new home and get them installed there? Will I have to redo anything once my new home has wifi? Many thanks.

About 2-1/2 years after initial installation, one of my Nest Protect units started to chirp and I got a low battery waring in my Nest app. I went to change the original factory-supplied L91 batteries in this unit (one of my THREE Protect products) and one of the batteries was VERY hot. The other 5 were normal temperature. I had to put the hot battery outside to let it cool off before discarding. I'm now worried about my other Protect products and will take them out of service today. I see on the forums hundreds of others had similar issues. Ever hear of or experience this yourself?

what are the difference between battery and wire , are they offering the same futures?
@larz28 Жыл бұрын
I got my first one to connect to the network on the 2nd try. The other 2 units would NOT connect (All wired units). I've tried about 40 times each so far.. I tried all the typical troubleshooting but no success yet. I wonder if once the first one is connected, disable it so the second unit THINKS its the first unit. Thats the only thing I can think of at this point. But on your video, one unit connects to the previous unit.

Does anyone know if Google is abandoning the Nest products? I bought a 2nd generation Nest Protect (wired) and it is not supported by Google Home or the newest Google Hubs with video.
@RJandCharlene3 жыл бұрын
I don't know why, but my Nest setup did NOT have an option for it to say "basement." The only option that was close to it was "Cellar," so I was forced to choose that. Any idea why??

Any idea what to do when you move out, and your wifi is disconnected? How do you transfer the ownership to the new renter?
@BrightHouseEnergy Жыл бұрын
You’ll have to reset each device to transfer ownership by pressing and holding the face button until it asks you to release.

other manufacture smoke like kidde or Brk can be interconnect with nest co smoke alrm ?
@noxious_nights4 жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately. If Google ever makes a 3rd gen Protect, it'd be nice to have an interconnect wire, even if it's optional.

hardwired wires they used to power up all the smoke alarms if the power goes out then the fire alarm batteries will be battery back up so they will be still working in case of a smoke or fire in the house and this will still work while battery operated
