I’m sad. Saw this about a year after posted. But still helped me in learning how to install rail on my deck. 👍🏻

Thanks for including the difficulty you had near the end. It's real.

Your video was perfect for a seasoned carpenter. But for a novice, I would have liked to see the holes drilled to mount the posts, and the bolts used to secure them to the deck. Wouldn't you need a drywall type anchor in the hole before attaching the lag bolt? I never understood how these posts could be secured properly into fake wood, without a bolt through the top with a nut attached under the deck.
@spelunkerdАй бұрын
The fake wood is not structural. The screws are long enough to go directly into the joists underneath, which are typically 2X8. The deck needs to be designed to have joists exactly where those four screws line up.

I use straps on the handrails before standing them in place its always worked
@HighRidgeHandyman3 жыл бұрын
Can you use a strap or tie down to keep the railings together. Wrap each side and ratchet it until in place then remove strap. It might work. Nice job guys!!

Definitely. Thats the 1st time I've had 1 come apart like that actually. Thanks!

What kind of railings do you use? Do you have to have a joist under all 4 corner screw holes of the post to secure the posts?
@adventuresofahandyman44463 жыл бұрын
These are called Afco series 100 but I think I'm going to start trying to sell rails from home fortress. These rails are nice bit scratch to easily in my opinion and the home fortress are much easy to install. Especially the stair rails. I put blocking under the post so that all bolts are secured in 2 by material. Thanks for watching!

Did you have to add wood blocking underneath the composite deck where those aluminum posts are mounted? Did not notice in the video…
@jacm72562 жыл бұрын
great video. i have a similar situation @3:08 of your video where my post lands on the split of my picture framing. Is that safe and okay to drill the screws there for the post? Does it still have a good support on the post? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks
@adventuresofahandyman44462 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It’s fine to attach the post there. There is 2x material beneath the deck birds that give the strength

@@adventuresofahandyman4446 thanks a lot for your reply. i wasn't too sure when i tried installing my railings yesterday so when i stumbled upon your video, it gave me hope that I can install them in that split section of picture framing. i thought it woudn't have enough bite to it or might ruin the edge of the board. I do have a 6x6 as blocking underneath but it seems to me that you are landing the first post screw on the rim board itself right? 3/4" from the corner? not in the blocking after the rim? thanks again for your support.
@adventuresofahandyman44462 жыл бұрын
@@jacm7256 yes that 1st bolt is in the rim board. I do my best to hit it in the center
