We use this for our valleys. Centred down the middle.

Does the synthetic underlayment come down all the way to the drip edge covering the ice n water shield?

Any chance of a video doing roof edge repairs??? . My roof edges are rotted from improper shingle placement. Water pools on the roof edge and is finding it’s way into the soffit

What brand(s) of ice and water shield would you recommend?

What roof pitch is considered walkable for you without a harness?
@YourAverageRoofer3 жыл бұрын
For me 2/12-10/12. For an average homeowner 6/12 is probably the max.
@slimjimpotter80443 жыл бұрын
OSHA says any pitch under 10:12, with a ground height of 6ft. Any thing over a ground height of 6ft needs a harness and leash. Flat roofs are different. You must be 6ft from the edge without a harness and leash.

I never have put on a harness. I have even done some 16/12 roofs

What happens when the gutter freezes up with ice in the winter and the melting water seeps in-between the plywood and gutter board and fills the soffit with water.?

great videos! You go slow, explain well, and even things to watchout for. ill be doing my roof soon so ill be watching the rest of them shortly. what do you do if you have hips instead of valleys? do i drap it over and overlap on my four hips, or do i cut them and butt them up on the hip ( i assume cutting them is wrong cuz there would be a water gap). drip edge and chimney flashing goes over ice and water? dyou think ill be able to save my drip edge and flashing (because ill need to remove it to put my ice/water down) or should i just by new stuff? (tryna save some $$$) and the rap song at around 10:15 was way to loud and distracting lol

But what about the drip edge?

Doesn’t the drip edge go under the tar paper?

My BIL hired some guys to redo his dad's porch roof today. They didn't change the leaking plywood (halfway down the roof in one spot). They nailed a strip of flashing over it. Then they shingled. I asked why they weren't using weather barrier between the wood and the shingles. The head guy told me, "It's on the underside of the shingles." Didn't know that, cool. I looked at a scrap piece and it looks like every other shingle I've seen on the back. Is what he said true?
@YourAverageRoofer3 жыл бұрын
Hes full of it. No shingle has a synthetic backing as a leak barrier. As for the metal over plywood that is the cheap fix but not a permanent solution as the wood still contains damage and is considered a weak point.

@@YourAverageRoofer Thanks, I thought he was lying but didn't wanna diss him till I found out a few things. So he's rinkydink. I'm glad he wasn't doing the main roof that was done by a quality company that cost some bucks which is the reason the porch roof didn't get done then. Bad decision.

@@mala3isity the only way to fix rotten wood is to replace it, I’ve made comedic videos about metal over wood but improper and poor workmanship. Stay average! Thanks for reaching out!
