As a network engineer supporting ICT infrastructure for my company hangar, jet engine always fascinate me. Its a complete system by itself, mechanical, hydraulics, electronic, pneumatics etc2. I end up reading the ttm and amm, hanging around the tech asking questions. For IDG, they let me watch the entire process of replacing one. What an insight :)

Im impressed of how strong QAD rings are. Before idg it was csd + generetor and both components together are pretty long and heavy so QAD had to support a big lever arm force.
@zeto.rАй бұрын
Yes for sure it holds weight and all the forced, It is a heavy piece of metal

There is a good reason why it is expensive to maintain aircrafts. But also a reason why things like this almost never fails. Redundency, triple checks for everything you guys do, reading the maintenence guide with every single step, care and of course, sense. You guys are amazing. I’m a loading supervisor in Denmark and avgeek as Well. Enjoying every single video from u and stig 😁

An IDG is basically a fancy generator that generates electrical power for the planes systems. 120/220V 3 phase 400 hz. On the ground, the APU provides this power, but in the air, the IDG takes over.
@zeto.rАй бұрын
It is a very simple 3-phase with a complicated gearbox from which the output is 115VAC 400hz during flight and ground OPS. APU gen. supplies aircraft systems during flight ops in case of failure of engine systems and on the ground during the transition from the engine to ground power unit

Had to look up what IDG stood for. Integrated Drive Generator. When you change a component like this do you have to print the Re:Re procedure from the current up to date amended maintenance manual and sign or initial every step or is that done by electronic copy and electronic signatures. In rotary wing we call the paper printed copies the dirty finger copies or the working copies and every line must be initialed and retained as part of the tech log with the maintenance release for return to service. For years well actually for decades we never had to do that but it's becoming more and more like the Airline procedures all the time now. We generate a lot of paperwork and wish it could all be done electronically but things move slowly in this regard!
@zeto.rАй бұрын
We have everything in electronic form, but some people like to have AMM in paper form which I understand. It is a lot of paper waste. Nut what can you do
