This was an exhausting step in our van build process but as you can tell from the results, 100% Worth It! Here's what we used (If you buy these items we get a little bit of money from Amazon which is gonna go straight back into our travel/van build: - KILMAT: amzn.to/3CSTZim - Rollers: amzn.to/3CSTZim - Box Cutter: amzn.to/3CSTZim - T Square Ruler: amzn.to/3CSTZim

Just fyi, 3db is 30% quieter, 6db is half as loud, so 3 to 5 db drop is great! Now some soft coverings like carpet and fabrics will make another huge difference!

Didnt know how important sound deadening is until i did my last build. My first comp level build. Flex was so violent paint was being ejected off the roof of my 2010 f150. And the rattle! Very obnoxious. After i saw my cracks on roof I had to do something. JB Welded the holes/cracks and installed sound deadener. Whole roof and all four doors. Amazing how the rattle just disappeared. Flex was still violent. It is a must when you reach a certain level of bass

Decibels are non linear so a 2-5 reduction is good.

Well we learned something new today! Thanks for educating us!

You didn’t have to use that mutch Killmat! Just put it on 25% of the surface and jou will get the same result, with a lot of bucks to spend on something else.

We've heard varying knowledge on how much is too much Kilmat lol - We've seen other builds that make ours looks like we barely applied any at all. Either way, it made a huge improvement and we are happy with it.

Did you do anything inside the doors?
@katieandjoeonthego8 ай бұрын
Yes! We disassembled the sliding and rear doors to add insulation and sound deadening.

I'm using your van build as my first-to guide. Any way you can label your vides numerically so I folks like me can just sort them out? Thanks!

Glad we are able to help with your build! If you check out the entire playlist, how we uploaded it is basically how we built the van: kzbin.info/aero/PLHapNEReCnNn-o7zOPSjFIx1mvIa13HJ4

Wouldn't the insulation deaden the noise too?
@katieandjoeonthego9 ай бұрын
Absolutely! We measured the sound difference pre/post kill-mat and it definitely knocked a few dbs off

Over kill by 75%

Def overkill. You actually don’t even need any sound deadening. Once you build your van, all the interior structure, including insulation is actually a sound deadening feature.
@katieandjoeonthego7 күн бұрын
From our experience, sound deadening plays an important part in removing the tin pings of the sheet metal from the van. Did we go overkill? Maybe. Have we seen people use twice as much as we did? Absolutely. If we had to do it again, we'd 100% do the exact same thing.

@ makes sense. To each their own. I was planning on putting it everywhere like you until I stumbled across this video where the noise is negligible after the build with or without sound deadening. You will 100% see a difference in sound deadening if the cargo is empty but not much of a difference after it’s built out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXScY6SdqNemaJY Not being rude or anything but just sharing information for other who are in the fence about it. I still enjoy your videos! Good work
