Since its being screwed and nailed to the wall does it really expand and contract? I mean I mean when installing on the floor it is left floating no adhesive and nails so it can expand and contract

I'm a rebe hahal. I started on the left and went right, I also had to rip one in half and started with that on the bottom. Rather have it low so it doesn't stand out because it would at the top in my case.

Just did that project, still need to use glue as the peel n stick is not designed to hold the weight of panel upright.

They all get clicked together just like in a floor install. The cuts are on the ends.

The cuts are along the sides to remove the tongues allowing for the wood to be all the way across

there is also a " rip" at the top. where the wood is horizontally cut because a full piece won't fit.

Can I paint a laminate cabinet?

Professional way: Take the whole thing apart, sand it to a micron of it's life, wash with acetate-type remover to get off as much glue-type residue, (depending what cabinet was used for or where it's being used you may want to spray with warm water/borax* mixture to prevent mildew/mold) wash with water and let dry completely, then a last superfine grit sandpaper for the paint to adhere to. If it's going to hold food* it's a good idea to do a primer coat with an anti-mold component. If it's going to have stuff drip on it consider a marine (water repellent) paint. The EZ way: take apart completely, cover with peel-n-stick cabinet paper or spray paint with "sticks-to-plastic" on the label.

So, everything I can find on laminate flooring (both vinyl and wood laminate) indicates that it must be a "floating" installation. While actual wood movement only occurs across the grain, the melamine vapor layer and the HDF core will expand and contract in both directions. Doesn't that mean the combination of an adhesive and a mechanical connection would lead to failure? And if it doesn't move because of those connections, then is the expansion gap necessary? I love the idea of this in general, but the installation here seems to run contrary to all of the recommendations of the material.

It's not the material itself that moves, it's the wall itself with 2x4 beams behind it that moves. They expand and contract with the humidity. If you don't leave a gap, you risk having the laminate panel squished when the wall expands.

@@barbarianatgate2000 possible a bit of both.e every floating floor product I've installed has instructions to have the material acclimate to the room for at least 24 hrs before installation. which implies that it is the flooring that is expanding/contracting.

Have you tried Lumber Liquidators or Build Direct? Or, get old pallets, take them apart and nail them on. If you stain them first you can create interesting patterns of your own design.

I am currently in the middle of doing this myself. You will want to take off the current paneling, put up drywall and then install from there.

Just prime and paint your paneling, it will look fabulous.

There might be drywall behind your existing paneling. If not, I would first take down the paneling, install the drywall, sealing the joints. They don't need a perfect finish but should be at least flat. Then install the laminate. Paneling itself is very flimsy and will move too much to hold the laminate. Most likely the paneling is on top of older drywall or a plaster wall.

Make SURE TO wear a self contained breathing apparatus to cut all planks. IT IS IMPERATIVE that you use a plastic trash grabber claw to do all work in front of your power tools, in case they extend outward and rip your hand off. MAKE CERTAIN that you use 1 entire tube of the most expensive gorilla glue adhesive on each and every plank AND ADDITIONALLY fasten them with 1" aviation grade metal galvanized bolts. You may want to rip apart the entire house to make sure that there is a treated and waxed mohogany wood stud at every 5" point through the entire span of the wall for safety.

This was so hard to listen to... Using words like adjoining and thereafter. Was the script written by an engineer? And the narrator doesn't help either. He isn't speaking like a normal person explaining steps to someone else. He's reading in that weird narrator voice, and I wonder if he's even comprehending what he's reading. Just my opinion.

I've installed two laminate floors myself, it's very easy. I never installed on a wall, but will definitely be doing this for an accent wall.
