I did this at home a few years ago. It's hard to not sound weird when I say how much more pleasant it is when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. You're not having to cope with pitch black, and the light isn't so much it totally wakes you up. I'm so happy you covered the two most important parts - using a GFI and making sure the sensor can detect you if you're sitting on the toilet.

Thank you for the video - I did exactly this and the lights stay on the entire time. Any thoughts? Same switch via amazon.

I really like what you did with the nema box. Is it code compliant having the low and high voltage in the same box like that?
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
The stamp on the red low voltage wire says 300v, so you can put it in the same box or hole as the romex.

Where did the white led driver go? Later in the video you showed a silver one

The white one was a sample to show you how to make the connection. The silver one was the one actually installed.

@@energyoneelectric What are the specs on the silver one? Can you link it
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
@User-qu7pq I usually buy Meanwell rs-25-12 or rs-50-12 etc.. the middle number refers to the watts and the 12 refers to 12 volts. It's a good brand, never had issues.

thanks for the video. def want to do this. Was the led driver not used? just the transformer? i dint see the driver from the beginning in the junction box. thanks
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
A driver and transformer are the same thing. In this video I had 2 inside the junction box because they were both powering different things. 1 was for toe kick lights, the other was for shower lights. Thanks for watching.

@@energyoneelectric would you mind linking the one you used
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
I use different types depending on the wattage and what's in my stock pile. Check back this weekend, I will link to a power supply for you.
@mikekaren Жыл бұрын
I would like to buy that transformer you used, can you provide the link to it please?
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
This may not be the exact one I used but it should be a similar one. Keep in mind you typically only need about a 15 watt power supply for a short length of led strip. I calculate 3.2watts per meter of single color led tape, then divide that total number by 0.8, because you should only be loading your power supply up to 80%. Choose a power supply that matches your final number or bigger. Be cautious, any power supply that has an input of 100v-240v ac may have a power selector switch on the outside or somewhere inside the shell that you will need to select with a screwdriver before connecting it. Hope this helps. Come back and comment how your project turned out. amzn.to/3xTY1nu

Great video! I'm looking to do a similar setup with LEDs running down either side of some stairs. The thing is, I'd like to have a motion at the top and bottom of the stairs to turn the lights on whether you're going down or up them. I'm sure this is possible but wiring is not my specialty. How would this be wired?
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I have never installed a sensor at the top and bottom of the stairs, I typically install stair lighting on a 3 way switch. These sensors are not designed to act like 3 way switches. You can try something and let us know if it works: When you send 12v power to your motion sensor, send another 12v power to a second sensor. Then from each sensor connect to the same point on your led strip. Test this out before actually wiring and installing everything in place.

Thanks for the video's. I want to be able to control brightness and color (RGB). Do you have a preference for a driver that will allow google to turn on, off, and adjust RGB and brightness?
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
Check out my video on permanent Christmas lights. I show an rgb driver that is wifi capable and can connect to your phone.

awesome explanation! Normally, we're used to seeing a switch control the LED lighting. In this case, no switch required between the 18 wire power and the LED's because the motion sensor acts as the switch. Is that correct? Thanks for the video!
@energyoneelectric Жыл бұрын
You are correct, that motion sensor acts as a switch. Thank you for watching. Stay subscribed because I will be uploading videos on a regular.

Your motion sensor switches both leads of the led strip. Is there a reason that this is better than using a single pole switch to just connect / disconnect only 1 of the 2 leads? I am thinking of using a Lutron standard occupancy sensor switch to trigger the kick plate lighting.
@energyoneelectric2 жыл бұрын
You could just use a single pole switch to turn on your led driver.

Do the lights only come on when it's dark or when it's light and there's movement they also come on?
@energyoneelectric2 жыл бұрын
The lights turn on when motion is detected, day or night.
@energyoneelectric2 жыл бұрын
The lights turn on in daylight or night because it's a motion sensor, nothing to do with night or day.
