Don't use the 3M Scotchlok crimp spices ever. They will let corrosion build up and then the wire will break at those weak points and you will be back fixing it a few years down the road. Just get the Curt 55384 inline tap for the 7 way plug. It comes with a 4 way flat connector build in. Only 1 wire to splice and that's the reverse. Get the double wall heat shrink once you have made the solder joint, just a tiny bit of RV Silicone over the joint, then slide the heat shrink over it for a waterproof connection. Cut the reverse wire on the tap and slide on your heat shrink. Next solder the 3 connections (reverse light from ) OPT7 and the 2 cut wires from the tap) and apply the RV silicone and slide the heat shrink over it. VIOLA! A perfect splice that will ever fail or corrode. Been making waterproof connections for years using this method and have never had 1 failure due to corrosion. I have also fixed hundreds upon hundreds of connections that have failed from the 3M 801 Scotchlok connectors! you'll be happy you too the extra time to do it this way! OPT& should be showing you guys this method as the one they showed only ruins your wiring where the Scotchloks cut into your wiring exposing it to potential corrosion. Pull the rubber grommet out of the spare tire tool hole and use either neodymium magnets attached to the 3M tape or use the provided brackets to mount the OPT7. If you mount it just right after the grommet removal, you will have enough room to sneak your tool in! [That's what she said!] LOL

@ralphhross6 жыл бұрын
After reading the comments there seem to be 2 show stoppers here for this tailgate light and maybe for many tailgate light bars. First it blocks the spare tire access hole, so that's no good at all. The product should be designed to ensure access one way or another. Second most newer trucks do have a trailer installed function and it's not apparent that this product or the others have been tested to ensure if you wire into the trailer harness, that this function is not compromised.

I hard-wired mine on my 2017 Ford F-150. However, since I installed it, there are a couple of issue, not major ones. First, it prompts me on the dash when starting up that a trailer is connected, however that is not the case, and because it thinks that it is connected to a trailer, two functions that my truck no longer does is the automatic shut-off when at a stop, and the backing-up assist is disabled. Please let me know if there is a way to resolve these issues with my truck since that started once the triple taillight bar was installed. Any feedback would be great.
@OPT7Lighting6 жыл бұрын
Hey Gabriel, we apologize for the issues you are having after consulting with my team. Here is what they recommend you do to resolve this issue. Since hard wiring to the trailer harness will unfortunately cause a load on the system falsely thinking an actual trailer is attached. They recommend trying to wire directly to the taillight it self as done with the reverse light in this video.
@nightster200816 жыл бұрын
Would it be possible to show a video on wiring it using the taillight instead? I just want to make sure I'm doing it correctly and I learn better by watching a demonstration. Will the wires correspond to the same color on the taillight as they did on the trailer wireharness? That is my main concern, I want to make sure I am connecting the right wire with the wire on the taillight itself.
