How do they do over the winter? If it snows and freezes, do the lines come up? How much work is it to reset the lines?
@ChrisLewitАй бұрын
Yes they come up over winter due to freeze thaw and need to be reset. It is time consuming to reset them but I prefer it to nailing

These are what we use at the natural clay courts at Pittsburgh's Frick Park. Have had them for years and they work great. In our case it is important to get the natural clay to brick dust ratio correct so that they "stick" down and don't raise up when flooded or otherwise. But, our court master is a wizard at that aspect.

Nice would love to learn from that guy!!

What type of material is used at the park for the clay?
@John-xl5bx Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisLewit It is natural local clay that brick dust is added to as required. Also, occasionally salt. It is a balancing act that does require judgement. And the right amount of rain, and continual use.

@John-xl5bx would it be possible to connect me to your maintenance guy? I want to experiment with adding brick dust to my courts. My email is chrislewit@gmail and my cell is 914-462-2912. Thanks amigo

I need advice with these lines! Natural clay court by Wilson and Lawrence in vermont with slate dust on top. I tested them this year on the baselines and have had trouble with them raising up. It’s weird bc when we sweep no top dressing gets under the lines. Anyway I could compare results. Maybe didn’t stretch them enough. Tom

30 years ago, there way a company in NY that sold these lines. The attach points used different hardware. In NY, I got tired of nailing lines every year after adding material. These are reusable. Now i am in NC and discussing these lines with my tennis club owner. They have Har Tru courts. We will start with one court as a proof of concept.

Thanks. I have had good results in second season with these German lines. Har-Tru says they will not work on Har Tru but I think you can do it. Let me know if you get results. The secret for me is saturating the surface and mudding in the lines deeply initially.

@@ChrisLewit My court in NY was Har-Tru. I used these lines for 10+ years and they worked great! I think USA suppliers just want to sell more lines 🙂I never had to replace these lines.

Hey Chris, thanks for the video. Am planning to buy these exact lines for my court (imported from Germany). So I guess I might be the second court in the US with them installed ;-) I'm planning to remove them everyone fall (I'm up. in New England) it would seem that would be as easy as the install. Would love to hear any tips or suggestions that you might have since your install.

I’m in Vermont and will do the same. I have lots of thoughts in my first season with these lines. I’m still learning myself. The intersections are a bit tricky. I had to do little trimming and getting the metal stakes lined up perfectly at intersecting points was tricky. I think the fall close down will be really fast after this first install because I he stakes can remain in place for the next season. So you shouldn’t have to measure or align with them again. Just install the lines to the existing stakes in the spring. No nails to take out or put back in. My first court install took some time this spring. I was going slow to learn about the lines and how best to install. There were no online videos to help. I am going to do a second install later this month and film the process and will upload. I think you will find it interesting. My biggest secret and advice is to soak the lines and bury them. Saturate the lines during install. Stamp them in with the stamper. And then bury them with extra clay. That process has been working really well for me. Let me know any more questions or message me directly. I would actually love to share ideas if you get them and try to install. We could share info. I’m curious to see the durability of these lines. How many seasons the pvc material will last for example.

@@ChrisLewit Would love to share info/experience. Mine is a family court so it doesn't get the traffic your does but I think we can still benefit from "sharing notes". Assuming all goes well, these tapes will really improve my open/close. Used traditional nailed lines in the past and would cover them with old 1x4 decking weighted down with bricks. Looking forward to simply rolling up the new PVC ones and storing them in the barn during the off season.
