Will this make my 2003 Chevy avalanche go into 2 Wheel because currently mine only goes into four high for low and all wheel drive and this part, the reason why I’m asking is because it is quite expensive and I’ve already replaced almost everything else except for this in the transfer case, and both of those are pretty expensive

Good video. FYI, the orientation of the u-joints is by design, irrelevant. Also, you may have to start the truck (in addition to putting it in neutral for 4 low) to get the shift motor to start working.

Check fuses it will be a 20 amp atc fuse on the right in the middle of your fuse box. Check grounds right under the driver side door mounted to frame may need cleaned up. Could possibly be an actuator problem that's a cheap and easy fix. Could be vaccuum issue/diaphragm. Good luck mate mine is stuck in 4wd low rn and my switch lights are out but the switch seemed fine when checking ohms. My 20 amp atc fuse was blown and when replaced it blew right away telling me it's probably the encoder motor. Make sure you change the encoder motor first then a new fuse or you will think the encoder motor was not the issue when maybe it was but you blew a fuse without knowing. Just a thought

So have the transmission & the 4wd switch both in Neutral before starting this project?
@adrenalinehigh20705 жыл бұрын
texjames2000 nope. The only time you’ll need the transmission in neutral is once everything is back together and you are now sitting in the vehicle testing the different selections are working accordingly. Keep in mind to keep the truck’s transmission in neutral when you are shifting into 4HI and 4LO. I don’t get why the technician had it in neutral and then decided to do go back to park to test the rest of the selections. That’s why his selections never stop flashing. They never actually engaged.

I have a 2001 suburban 5.3 4x4. I just replaced the control switch, no lights came on. Checked the ACT fuse it was blown. Changed fuse and the lights came on and switch worked fine. Got in the truck the next day and the lights did not work and blown fuse again. I know it is probably a short to ground but is there an easy way to diagnose without tracing all the wires?
@1AAuto5 жыл бұрын
+Cant stand liberals We do not have a way of being able to diagnose the issue that you are experiencing with your vehicle but suggest taking it to a local mechanic for a proper diagnosis.

Great helpful video. IMPORTANT! When you mention to put the transfer in neutral turning the keyway downward, what do you mean with "keyway". Can you be more explicit, maybe show a photograph or put it into the video? I expect the most important is to get the transfer into neutral before installing the new motor, so as long as it is and I am not sure where that keyway is, I can turn it until it is into neutral?! Right or wrong? Any risks? Otherwise great video.
@tallbe16 жыл бұрын
Erik Viktor ,Google keyway, and key stock if you don't know what a keyway is, a keyway is a slot that keeps a part aligned, suck as a pulley over a shaft, or in this case it'll turn your transfer case into the right position

Is it permissible to remove a faulty transfer case shift motor and discard it rather than replace it? I don't want to buy that costly replacement motor and am perfectly willing to disable 4WD permanently.
@1AAuto5 жыл бұрын
+Daniel B. Martin Thanks for watching! In theory you could just not install a new one, you would just lose all FWD functionality. 1aauto.com
@danielbmartin5 жыл бұрын
@@1AAuto Thank you, 1A. I'm also searching for a low-labor means to achieve the same purpose. I hope to identify one fuse which will disable FWD permanently but not affect anything else. There is a fuse marked TREC. Is that the one? 2004 GMC Yukon.
@nigelio35 жыл бұрын
@@danielbmartin Yes it is the fuse in the 2004 Yukon. That's the same truck as mine. However, if you just pull that the truck will still be (if it's stuck) in 4wd. Same as if you pull the motor, or disconnect it, because the front drive shaft is still in. However, if you really don't want to change the motor (not sure why you wouldn't, they are like $100 on Amazon), just pull the front drive shaft and motor and drive all you want in 2wd. That is, considering that the front differential actuator hasn't locked your front wheels in 4wd still. That won't disengage without the signal to do so. So, you'd have to pull that as well.

It really is a shame that you got to remove a drive shaft to get to the actuator motor on that vehicle and I just did mine a couple of days ago but it was an 06 trailblazer and I can't believe how easy mine was. Removing that drive shaft on set of ramps isn't that easy.
