If you wanna be technical if it is stick framed then it is a rafter. Obviously if it truss framed than you are right but we all know what he is talking about.

Question: On a small shed, if there is a ridge vent space between the sheathing at the apex, do you simply place the overlapping shingles over this space or do you overlap the last horizontal row of shingles and leave it or follow it up with a second layer of overlapping shingles like you did in the video? Thanks

Angle the fence on your saw to the pitch of the roof. Use the left fence @1.5" as a guide on a worm drive saw with apex of ridge as line. Don't forget to cut the face on 1st ridge, creating a bleeder seal, not just on Vents Ridge. Especially on video dig... Family Tradition Keeping it real. Stay thirsty bro Steeper the better;)

What happens if you have tons of soffits intake vents along with ur ridge vent?
@isaacholzwarth
@isaacholzwarth Жыл бұрын
That's actually necessary for this to work. The soffit intake allows the air to flow up and push the hot air out the top through the ridge vent. If you don't have soffit vents the ridge vent will not be able to let as much hot air out. Ridge vent combined with soffit vents is how the system is meant to work. But, you must close off all other vents in the attic for this system to work. Just in case you are confused, a soffit vent is the venting on the underside of the base of your roof, where your roof overhangs the edge of the house. If by "soffit intake" you mistakenly meant some other form of venting up at the peak of the house, you can not use them together with ridge vent, they would interfere. Does that make sense? Make sure and Google your terms so you know what a soffit intake vent is.

I've never seen that type of ridge vent that has square holes in the plastic. What is the purpose of that? Usually it's a solid plastic piece covering the ridge. I don't understand the purpose of that since the shingles are going over anyway.

Ring shank nails work better. That way you don't have to look for a rafter(stud in canada) for the vent to hold. I guess I should show you. Prof big. Or ill send you some.

@Best Damn Roofer Theyre what I use. Im in Texas. I do new roofs. The company I contract with sends Lomanco ridge vents. They come with bags of ring shank nails. They hold way better and you don't need a rafter. Theyre more brittle than smooth nails, but can hold. I got a bunch in my shed. I can always send yall some. I've also compared. I've driven half the nail on a smooth and a ring shank. Smooth one I pulled out with my hand. Ring shank pulled my skin off. Also, what ridge vents were yall using?
@jaimebenitez3208
@jaimebenitez3208 3 жыл бұрын
@Best Damn Roofer I lied. Im using Tamko cool ridge currently. Comes with 12 vents, and bags of ring shank nails with each vent. I put a nail in each hole thats cut into the vent. And add 2 to each end for the connections to stay down flush.
