This video demonstrates how to achieve a tight, compact braid when installing single ended dreadlock extensions. A section of hair is pushed through the loop of a dreadlocks extension. Push the extension up to the scalp and split the section of hair in two, which along with the extension, will give you 3 pieces. Now braid down the length of the dreadlock extension and secure with a heavy duty pro elastic or thread.

As a person who does this. why is the hair at the end not wrapped around. It looks like crap when all the hair at the end is sticking out like that.

This video was made to primarily demonstrate the blanket braid. There are a number of ways to finish off the ends - the neatest way is to use thread rather than elastic so that the ends can be hidden completely and wrapped neatly. We have plenty of videos at www.dreadlocks.com.au.

If you put your hair into Cornrows and then use a crotchet hook to feed the dreads through the cornrows it looks much nicer and you don't see ANY of your own hair. I use to do it this way but hated seeing my own hair braided in as it looks so un natural.

Are you able to get the extensions out without doing a ton of damage to your hair?

For anyone unclear on this braid, it's also called a blanket stitch. My question is how do you hide the ends of the natural hair that's left below the elastic? The stylist that installed mine left over an inch of hair just hanging out. The color matches the dread but it's still obvious and driving me crazy.

Tie it down with some fishing line or stretchy craft string. I have the same problem that what I do. I put bands on the ends then go back through and tie down the ends of each one. I've had mine in a few times and I've leaned a little each time lol. Deff tie down you down want all your hard work to be ruined by popping rubber bands. Cuz they will start to break lol.

@@amyeethomas2495 That's a great idea! I have elastic thread stuff already, how convenient! I had my male licensed stylist friend install for me, and he couldn't get it out of his head that they shouldn't be spaced wide like box braids. They looked ridiculous! I had to go back and split his sections 2 or 3 times each. I bought like 65 single ended and had like 25 left when I told him we needed to use them all to make it full. He went super full in back and wider and more spaced out towards the front, the complete opposite of the way it should be done....lol.. He kept telling me how he'd usually charge someone 80 an hour for this kind of install. I wanted to say, "If I pay you, then will you do it right?" Lol. I didn't, but I wanted to. It didn't matter in the end, because they weren't boiled soft enough and about 3 days after I split them all up, they started to itch so horrifically bad that I was almost drawing blood from scratching my scalp nonstop (I always have stiletto nails & I tend to have them long and sharp, especially when I first do them, so it doesn't take much to draw blood with them.) It was so bad it started to freak me out a little like I was allergic to the material of the hair or something. I knew they would itch, but everyone said it shouldn't be unbearable like that. I had to take them out and boil them more and let my scalp mellow out. You are right about it being a learning experience each time! There are no failures, just learning a whole lot about what NOT to do! LOL Thanks again for the great idea!

My stylist crochets my hair through the dread extensions. All of the ends are hidden and she didn’t even need to use elastics at all, and my dreads stayed in perfectly. Of course, this depends on the kind of dread extensions you have. Mine are crocheted, so she was able to pull my hair through and it matched the texture nicely.

@@kayhales I just cut the rubber band and unbraided it. It wasnt hard at all. Way harder to braid them in than remove them for sure.

Will the natural hair start to dread itself?
@thedreadshop399

Every 2-3 months as your hair grows out and the braid loosens they need to be removed and reinstalled, so no, usually your own hair won't have a chance to dread. If it is left for much longer it may start to lock up a little but because the braid is holding the ends of your hair in place it will be limited to how much it will actually dread.

No it won't. Who ever did these did them really shitty. They didn't wrap all the hair at the end.

No not do that it won't work If u want to loc your dredz in u must use the crochet hook. Do not just wrap your hair like this video. Watch other videos cause this video is very wrong
