Just a quick rundown on how to install snare wires! Demonstrated on an INDe Flex-Tuned Maple shell, featuring the INDe SB1 strainer and Puresound Custom Snare wires, but this should apply to most throw-off designs.

I put an inde snare throw off on a Ludwig Supra lite 13” and it was the most hellacious experience I’ve ever had changing a throw off. This was my first time installing the inde strainer. Getting the nut on the two screws that hold the throw off on the drum was not easy and then when I finally got it secured adjusting the throw off was the ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I may need therapy after tonight. You really have to get the snares pre tensioned to very close where you want them . I keep bottoming out on the adjustment knob trying to get any tension. I finally had to put the lever halfway on/off and make critical adjustments to get it right .

@@philliph2118 if you follow the procedure in this video, you should only need a turn or 2 of the knob to tension the wires. If not it sounds like something else is wrong.

Summary: throw off engaged. Tension set in middle. Tension and clamp butt plate first to keep wires centered on head. Then tension and clamp the throw off side. Specific to the SB1 set: looping the ribbon or string back over the clamp through the clamp slots esp on the throw off helps not only secure but optimally pre-tension the wires by pulling and locking them tight (you can see the throw off move up toward the wires when he does this). Elegant design and engineering! You can mimic this on eg a DW mag throw off by pulling tighter and maybe adjusting tension lower than half, maybe all the way off.

the snare we got for my son, sounds like it's not tight enough and when you drum, it almost sounds like one of the wires hovers over the skin rathen than sit on the surface. It reverberates quite a lot. Not sure how to fix that. I thought maybe the wires were installed upside down, but that created an actual gap. Maybe it's a defect ... ?

@@SteveFloresCoach yes, sometimes a single snare wire will be looser than the others and won’t tighten without choking the others. Time to replace the wires!

I have a Banjo/Geisler snare. It's meant to have banjo strings on it. What's the best snare brand/type to use for that drum?

Is there a top and bottom of the wire when you install??? Dose mater what side is up. It can go either way???
@ayoungethan11 ай бұрын
The welded side needs to go against the drum head, because the plate is designed to pull tight against the head when tensioned. If you install the other way then tensioning will actually lift the snares away from the head
