Thank you! I wanted to add one mod for keeping the crows away Smapi looked so intimidating when i first got it i just noped out for a few days. I followed your tutorial and it worked! I always got so annoyed with the crows messing up my beautiful lined up crops that i couldn't play it so hopefully now i can play in peace and actually enjoy the game. hiii, so in the step where you install dotnet for some reason my smapi thing doesn't change like yours, and even tho i have steam and stardew valley downloaded it doesn't appear their respective folders or mods folders in my desktop so i can't continue with the process

heyy so after i installed smapi on my windows laptop my stardew valley wont start.. i have no idea what i did wrong but when i try and start the game it gives a popup ( like the one at 2.30 ) but mine says this Unhandled exception. System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'System.BadImageFormatException' and some other things but every time i copy the whole thing this comment will not post :,) i hope you notice me and can help me out bc i really wanna play again..

hmm. I would try two things first. I would 'verify' the integrity of your stardew valley game first. You can do this by right clicking on stardew valley in your steam library, go to properties, local files, verify integrity. From there, when you download make sure your extracting the installer somewhere where the folder alongside the installer isn't getting lost.

It depends on the mod, most aesthetic mods you should get achievements still as long as you have steam running in the background.

When you are extracting, are you making sure to keep all the subfolders (don't just extract the exe). Also, i would ensure your not hitting a windows firewall

It depends on the portrait mod, some you can put straight into the mods folder and some you need to overwrite actual game files. It won't be my next video which I've already started on but I can make showcasing some portrait mods and how to download them the one after that :)

that's the downloads folder, which is where my browser default sends my downloads. I would check there, if your on chrome, there is an up arrow and when you click on it there is a 'show in folder' option that will take you to where your browser downloaded the file to

Do you mean the part where I recommend 7-zip? You don't technically need it, you can choose 'extract all' from that same menu instead of 7-zip and it will extract the files for you as well. If you did give 7zip a try, if your on windows you would most likely need the '64-bit x64' unless your computer is super old. Im not entirely sure if they block vpn's if your using one. Other than this potential, there might be something on your browser blocking you from downloading. I would ensure nexus is made an exception on any ad-blockers, browser protections that you may have enabled

It probably means it was unable to auto find the path, you can either try to install again from scratch to see if it autofinds or you'll have to find the file path to your game folder and provide it yourself. Without knowing how/where you installed your game I am unsure of the exact filepath your looking for but the format you would provide would be something like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardew Valley\StardewValley.exe

Hi, I am not sure if you respond to videos but no matter what I tried from this video and another video you posted and espically about portrait mods were NOT working, I am not sure if this is a outdated video to know how to mod stardew valley or not.

the videos still work, but the versions of the mods would be different than what you see in this video. Do you have smapi installed? if so run the game at least once after installing smapi and make sure a mods folders is generated. From there you need to put the EXTRACTED version of the folder into the mods folder (not the zip, rar, etc.). I do plan to update these two videos soon though, as I feel these videos don't showcase how to troubleshoot very well.

I would try reinstalling and ensuring the part where it determines the path of the game is correct, it usually auto finds it properly but sometimes it can have trouble. Let me know if that helps.

I'm not familiar with this error but I imagine its one of two things: The first is you have an antivirus software preventing the install of SMAPI, you will need to add SMAPI as an exception or disable it when installing SMAPI and then reenable it when your finished. This will depend on your anti-virus software. Another possible reason is to keep in mind is you will always want to first run the game on steam before launching SMAPI. This creates several folders SMAPI looks for when trying to find the directory. The other possible thing to note is making sure you extract the SMAPI zip and your trying to run the windows.bat file from the extracted folder and not the zip folder.

You can run vanilla stardew with smapi installed. You can just remove the mods folder and it will run as vanilla does. You also don't need to uninstall if your playing multiplayer.

if you right click on stardew valley in steam, go to properties, then 'installed files' on the left, there should be a button to verify the integrity of your game files. Hopefully that will fix up your game files. If steam itself cannot find stardew, there is likely something wrong with your stardew valley install and the verify should hopefully fix it. Otherwise you might have to uninstall stardew and reinstall before you start following this guide to install mods

I would mabe try uninstalling smapi (you can do that with the installer exe you would download from SMAPI, it would be option 2) and then reinstalling. Another thing to try is for some people if you haven't started stardew valley after a fresh install to do that first BEFORE installing smapi.

I would try doing a fresh install of SMAPI, if you download the installer again and run it, there is an option 2 for uninstall. When you do this, I would remove EVERY mod from your mod folder. Reinstall SMAPI and try running smapi without mods and ensure the game runs. After that, add your mods back in small batches and run the game between each batch. Annoying but I do find sometimes its a single mod thats hurting the launch.

I'm so sick of this not working. It's been 3 months of me repeatedly downloading this wrong or it not being supported by my device. When I go to the Xbox app it doesn't do anything when I click manage, just gives me an option to uninstall my game. yes, smapi is routinely updated for the latest version. For historical versions (since we are on version 1.5.6), you might need to use a historical version of smapi, but it should let you know that when you do the smapi install if the latest version isn't compatible with 1.5.4. It should hopefully guide you where you need to go if thats the case, but if not, the historical versions of smapi can be found here: github.com/Pathoschild/SMAPI/releases

Try starting up stardew valley after installing smapi, this should generate the mods folder for you.
