Thanks for your video. I also have the same hat😆 and my ‘96 SeaRay resembles your interior which was really helpful in giving me ideas on where to begin. I’m just starting to look into upgrading the old system this off-season with stereo, amp, speakers and sub. I’ll look for your other install videos for helpful tips👍🏼. Thanks much.

Thanks it’s probably my favorite hat! Girlfriend got it for me for Christmas a couple years ago.

Put spacers under the amp for air flow to help keep tha amp cool and also so the carpet can dry under it if it gets wet. Also I would suggest using wire ferrules to get better connections and reduce corrosion being a marine application.

Did you have to put a bigger battery in to run your 2speakers, amp, and sub?
@Jacob1900004 жыл бұрын
In a way I did. In another video I install a battery switch and second battery. The second battery is a pretty large group 27, whereas the original was a group 24. I typically will use the larger battery while sitting out on the lake and let it charge up while cruising. I have never run the larger battery low enough to need the other to start the boat, but it is nice to have that piece of mind. I also have the option of running both batteries together, in which case I essentially have double the capacity.

So to better answer your question, I’d say a single group 27 battery or larger is plenty sufficient for this single amp and sub setup.

Hello Cars & Computers, Could I add a capacitor right near the battery, just like you would for a car subwoofer install? The reason is I am not sure if my father would like for me to upgrade the battery, or add a 2nd one. I was hoping I could place a capacitor next to the current battery, and that gives the juice it needs to the external subwoofer + amp. Thank you for your time!
@Jacob1900003 жыл бұрын
In this case I don't think a capacitor would be much help, other than to keep your gauges from flickering when your sub hits. The main worry when adding an amp & sub to a boat is draining the battery too much while the boat is off, and not being able to start the boat. In a car, this is much less of a worry as it is likely on the entire time the music is playing, and charging the batteries with the alternator. If the current battery is large group 27 or larger you should be fine. Otherwise, you can install a larger or second battery for added peace of mind.

@@Jacob190000 I forgot boats don't have an alternator to constantly charge the batteries. I appreciate your response. My dad and I may need a bigger battery then. We can look into a large group 27 first, and take it from there. I think we can only have 1 battery as it is tucked away behind some seats. Do you happen to know how much a larger group 27 battery cost you?
@Jacob1900003 жыл бұрын
@@djreimsofficial The boat actually most likely does have an alternator. The difference is, it is very common to turn the engine off and just hangout on a boat. This is where the batterie(s) will drain. For example with my boat, we will often anchor out in the lake and hangout for an hour or two without turning the engine back on. If you guys constantly have the boat on and trolling, etc. You will not have any battery issues and can just use what you have. Group 27 batteries can run from $90 (Walmart) to $200 for a better brand. I actually use the Walmart brand and they work just fine.

@@Jacob190000 so essentially it's like turning off your car and letting that run, which will deplete the battery. Maybe a battery upgrade will work then and then we can add the amp and subwoofer

How much was your whole setup
@Jacob1900003 жыл бұрын
Just added up the main components of my system, and here's the breakdown: Kicker Sub - $112 Rockville Amp - $120 Kenwood Speakers - $67 JVC Stereo - $72 Total: $372. This is in no way a fancy/expensive setup. But, I will tell you that with the addition of the sub and amp to the boat, my system sounds crisp and loud. This sub has more bass than I need, and the Kenwood's get plenty loud.

What about the battery drain fast on the water ??????
@Jacob1900003 жыл бұрын
This is not much of a concern, especially with 2 batteries. I always make sure to use only 1 of the batteries while the engine is off on the water. That way, if I do somehow run the battery too low, I will have the second to start the engine and re-charge. That being said, I have never had that happen, even with having the engine off for a couple hours. Typically we will be moving around the lake, and so they are getting charged throughout the day anyway.

@@Jacob190000 that’s the point I have just 1 battery 🔋 👍🏾
@Jacob1900003 жыл бұрын
Ah okay. Yeah with just 1 battery you would have to be more careful if adding an amp and sub. Still, you can get plenty of battery life on 1 group 27 or larger battery. Just make sure you start the boat periodically to charge up the batteries.
