In This episode at the modern image layout 'New Junction' we take a closer look at Hornby's latest release, the Class 67 decoder TTS chip.
We have a closer look as to what comes in the box and then fit the decoder to a Hornby Class 67, problem solving as we go.
Once installed we have a quick test run around the layout leaving the loco ready for the next New Junction running session.

I know this is 2 years old, but I have the chip languishing in my box of bits with the Loco. Many thanks for your video, it was extremely helpful. By the way, got on screw in the speaker housing. The other went in with a drop of loctite 🤣🤣🤣

A very informative video. I am new to modelling and I am going to go straight to DCC. I purchased a type 67 at the Aberdeen Model Railway Exhibition last weekend and your video has helped me to understand it's internal layout. Many thanks.

Again, your tutorial was very helpful. Just completed my first Class 67 installation. Only another seven to do, when I can find more chips at a good price.

Thank you for this video , it certainly does give me more confidence to have a go at fitting one in one of my older loco's . The 67 TTS sounds very good ..........Peter

Excellent presentation. I wish all diesels were as straight forward as this. I must admit I would feel nervous not insulating the decoder from other electronic bits. Better safe than sorry.

Very nice "how to". Whenever I de-solder speaker wires I use a small amount of black tack to hold the speaker in place, stops it moving. If you here rattling from the fuel tank when playing sound you can also use black tack to hold the speaker in position, but it is a pity the screws are too large for the holes. Next time you do a similar installation, or you could try it with this loco, try putting a very think bead of sealant around the speaker sound box, with the speaker out, such as PVA, put the speaker back in the sound box. Then block all holes, to include the holes the speaker wires come out of. You should hear a big difference...Simon

It is as if Hornby knew the speakers get cut off and go straight in the bin . . . .:)

I know this is old but I just watched it and this may help someone. The screws to hold the speaker on do fit but the threads are full of paint. Run the screws in a half turn the back a quarter and repeat without the speaker on and that clears the thread out.

Thanks Richard. That’s given me much more confidence that what I thought I should be doing was right. You might have expected that Hornby would include the right-size screws to attach their speaker to their model. Apparently nobody checked what size the screws should be at the factory! Is this a typical Sino-British collaboration? How long does it take to check what size screws are needed? Wherever these are bagged up, be it in Kent at Hornby’s offices or in a factory in China, someone needs to check it all fits together seamlessly. Jim

Found your video very helpful. Just started to by Hornby locos for my collection. Currently have 146 non Hornby locos, mostly DCC ready. Have a number with DCC and others with sound. Is it an easy process to apply TTS to Bachmann and Dapol? Want for my collection 67013 and just received today 67018, 'Keith Heller'.

great video bud, ive all ways wondered how to get the speaker down into the fuel tanks, its a shame Hornby didn't make it so the cable had a split clipped together with clips so its easy to install instead from cutting it and all most destroying the speaker, its a good practice tho :) by the looks off it the locos body didn't go back on properly as it looks like a gap between the body and one side off the cab

Hi Richard, thanks for this helpful tutorial. Never thought that it is so complicated to fit a TTS decoder in a model number that is designed for. Why must things so difficult? I thought I can buy a few decoders for my 3 67s and put them easily in the locos. But I don‘t want to do this after I have seen your video. The only thing that is very easy on a 67 compared to many other models is the body removal. I have broken off some parts on 2 Bachmann 66s while I tried to get the body off with the „business card method“ (of course I unscrewed it first). It could all be so easy... Guido

Very nice layout and an excellent tutorial. I have a question though - does a DCC Fitted locomotive with TTS Sound have 2 chips fitted, one for the DCC bit and a second one for the sound, or are both functions incorporated into 1 chip ?
@NewJunction
@NewJunction 5 жыл бұрын
No, a DCC chip is just a chip, a DCC sound chip is the same but with a speaker attached. :)
