THANK YOU ! ! ! This video, nor anything half as comprehensive, existed a year ago when I started planning a lounge in our house. This is exactly what I want to do in our lounge. The only reason I didn't pull the trigger was because there were no DIY videos available at the time, and the professionals can be tight lipped about installation (they want you to contract them for the job). This video basically confirms what I expected... but now I won't have to wonder if I am making a mistake and ruining expensive material. AWESOME !

Installation guides say to use a scratch coat of thin set and then a bonding coat on the brick itself; however, it seems a lot of people are using the really advanced adhesives (liquid nails, loctite, etc) and having great results without the hassle. I've prepped two walls in my basement and plan to use the same approach. Looks great!
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын

This is a great reference video. We had a brick wall professionally installed, but I’m now doing another one myself. This really helped me. The grouting is the part I’m not looking forward too. Excellent video! Can’t wait to tackle it myself. What did you do once you got to the ceiling? Mortar between ceiling and the top brick? I’m considering doing nickel gap ceilings. Would you recommend doing the ceiling first then the wall?
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
Thx for watching! I just used masking tape on the ceiling and used the same mortar between the ceiling and the last row of brick - clean look. Yep you want to do that ceiling first and that's what I did in the home office I have videos of. By putting the ceiling in first the brick will keep the ceiling from being unsupported, maybe sagging, on the edge where it meets the brick. The transition will be cleaner between the two if the ceiling is installed first. Take care!

I would like to have those type of bricks put on the bottom of my cinder block foundation around the outside of my house, but the previous owner painted the cinder blocks. Is there anything additional that I will have to do to the comcrete cinder blocks being they're painted to make sure the bricks stick to the concrete cinder blocks?
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure if you will need to strip the pain of the cinder blocks. I would get a thin brick and adhere it the block. give it a few days and see how hard it is to pull off. If it comes off easy I would contact a paint store about a stripper to remove the paint. I bet you won't have to strip the paint and i think that thin brick is a perfect application for your idea! Great video. I'm doing this for a fireplace surround, but since it has corners would you start on the corners first or would you start from the center point and work your way out to the corners and cut them as needed?
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
Thats a good question! Thanks for watching. I'm guessing you are using the corner bricks provided by the manuafacture. If it was me I would start in the middle and work my way out to the corner pieces. Then cut the bricks between the corner and the last full brick in each row. I think the center of the fireplace is the most visual area for most people and you can hide those cuts at the corners better. I have a wall I'd like to do this to. It's drywall. Is there anything you would do differently considering it wouldn't be a cement wall? The wall I'm doing this to divides my dining room and living room, so I'd like to apply it to both sides of the walls. I am also curious if crown molding can be placed at the bottoms or tops and would it be placed directly over the brick or should there be a space left for it along the drywall? Also, the floor is tile...would this potentially make the wall heavy enough to Crack the tile...probably a dumb question but...I'm asking
@HomeProHero19 күн бұрын
Lots of questions! I have a video where I apply the thin bricks to drywall check it out! The only thing you do different is use heavy duty liquid nails. I have applied it to several drywall's no issue. The weight isn't much and you should have no issues with the floor or both sides of the wall. I would apply your baseboards and crown before the brick and then fill in between starting at the bottom stacking on top of the baseboard. I did something similar in my bathroom turned out great! Is the mortar more workable than sanded grout? The people at Mapei strongly recommended applying a sealer on the brick prior to grouting to protect the brick from staining. Have you had this issue at all or does the mortar not cause staining the way grout could?
@HomeProHero8 ай бұрын
The mortar is pretty firm when it's applied. If it begins to leave the channel and drip on the face of the bricks it's too wet. It dried extremely fast because the bricks are sucking out the water. I would be more concerned if the bricks are sealed they won't suck the water out of the mortar maybe causing a weak bond between the brick and mortar. I would only seal the bricks once the mortar is applied and tooled and maybe only if it was a backsplash in a kitchen. Thx for watching!

@HomeProHero3 ай бұрын
If it were up to me, I probably wouldn't bother unless I already had the tape and mud on hand. Once you apply the brick to the wall and mortar it, it creates a strong seal that is both secure and water-resistant. Thanks

To be honest I couldn't tell you. I would guess it would because it's more dense than drywall but on my application in this video I installed it on concrete on an exterior wall. Thx for watching

Will this method work for exterior walls on a stucco house?
@HomeProHero7 ай бұрын
I would say yes as long as you use the same liquid nails I used in this video because its mason to mason and rated for exterior use. I would test one thin brick, stick it on a hidden area, and try to pry it off in a few days. If it’s tough to get off I would do it. The only concern should be the glue because the brick and mortar are the real deal that you see outside everywhere. Hope this helps!

Is it ok just to glue it to standard drywall? No cement board needed?
@HomeProHero7 ай бұрын
For sure I have done that all over my house. Just use regular liquid nails not the landscape stuff I used in this video. I just put out another thin brick video where I applied it to drywall check that out. Thx for watching

Great video. Did you use only one mix for the grout to do the whole wall or did you run out and have to mix more?
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
Thx for watching! I did one mix for sure. Now on other areas of my house I used multiple and I could tell no difference from the other coats after it all dried. Thx

Will that adhesive stick the brick to textured and painted drywall?
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
I would use regular heavy duty liquid nails. Test a piece apply it to the wall. Check the next day and if you really have to pull or pry it off you are good! I think it will work fine!

So I LOVE THIS!! I am excited to try! Can i do this type of brick on outside of house on back porch. Tbh- my dog ate the vinyl off and I want to put something up that she wont eat. (She is now officially an inside dog)

Yes it's outside rated! I think there are other videos on YT that explains the process of installing it on the outside of a house. Thanks for watching abc good luck!

Can you tell me how to finish an open edge? One that doesn’t butt up to another wall? Thank you!
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
Yea they sell the corner pieces and also flats that I used in this video. The corner pieces wrap the edge on both sides. If I had to wrap a corner I would start on the corners and dead end into the wall on the other side. Hope this helps!

New subscriber. Thanks for this video as I've been looking really hard at thin brick and wanted to see others application and end result. It looks really great. Would you recomment it as a kitchen backsplash though?
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! It's really simple I was a little intimated at first but it's not any harder than wall tile - maybe easier. It will working in the kitchen I put it in my wine bar which is similar to a kitchen. I have a video tour on the bar and it shows the thin brick there. Good luck!

Great video and very informative, rustic bricks are on the wall but was shitting it when it comes to the pointing for times and consistency of the mortar mix, will be using a gun, but the bags look better 👍

Will the lock tight work in a bathroom and hold with moisture?
@HomeProHero Жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. Once you apply the mortar there is no way that moisture can get behind the brick. Similar to people installing tile in a bath. Thx 4 watching!
