A word of warning for anyone looking to buy the same product from the company Charlie quotes in the description. They are ridiculously expensive! I was quoted £600 for just one unit for a standard sized window! You can do far better with local companies or day John Lewis. I suspect this chap got his unit for free for featuring it on his channel but the average customer won’t be so lucky suspect - be warned!!

You're welcome. You'd think in this day and age there would be better bespoke tool bags for power tools but there don't seem to be. The suitcase idea came from a hotel project we were working on where we were traipsing down long corridors all day with our tools, so putting them in a wheelie case made sense.

Excellent mate, really useful. I tried to fit a typical roller blind a while back I find them so difficult to do, it needed cutting down but I made a complete mess of cutting it perfectly straight. If it isn’t that it is usually the fitting which then hampers me, I’ll drill into the wall or recess and meet the hardest substance in the universe and don’t have the correct drill bit on hand. 😩 I did laugh when the camera switched to your tool kit you had brought almost like a comedic i am going to fit this blind here are the tools you need 🤣

Amazing blinds. I've been trying to create black out for my entire house, upstairs anyway but at £600+ for just 3 windows upstairs I can see I am going to have to stick with 247 blinds. So I now have a burning pain just knowing these beauties are that far away. It's wonderful that you explain what you are doing and why because tradesmen like you are few and far between and really, if you want a job doing properly then you have to do it yourself.

Personally prefer some light coming in but good to know these are available, not seen them before. I've yet to come across a window where it's not a concrete lintel you need to drill into. Also, you're not really supposed to be drilling into them yet all the trades do. I used to have the same Stanley Fatmax large toolbox. Well made piece of kit but I found it was just too massive to lug about for my needs.

At 2 min ten seconds you show your kit neatly laid out for the job. Yep, it only takes seconds to put one's stuff down neatly, rather than stupidly. I was extatic seeing this as I work tidy and trades working messy makes my blood boil. More to the point, another very useful video. Thank you.

Great video Charlie, do you have any solutions for tilt and turn windows. We only have 26mm side clearance in our dormer windows and haven't seen a low profile solution that would still allow the windows to open inwards. Because its a dormer in a sloping roof we can't install on the outside of the reveal.

@CharlieDIYte
@CharlieDIYte 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you don't have a recess it's a little tricky as the side channels would be more noticeable, and you'd have to screw through the front rather than inside. In terms of the reveal being out of level, you just have to improvise as best you can, to get the cassette at the top level and the side channels square (if the cassette isn't level the blind is likely to telescope).

Hi Charlie, i feel like im really progressing in DIY thanks to your channel, when a year ago i couldn't even operate a drill ! One thing that's troubling me on plugs though, is whether its ok to have a screw longer than the plug wgen going into masonry? Does it weaken tge fixing? Could you run a tutorial on plugs into masonry like you hsve on plasterboard? Thanks Mark B
@the-elliott-day
@the-elliott-day 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not Charlie but I saw your comment - if it's longer it won't matter too much. If it's poking out the other side right through the wall then that's a bit of an issue cosmetically if it's in brick (most single skin brick walls are about 70mm + plaster/drywall thickness). What's necessary is the mechanical connection between the screw, the plug and the substrate (masonry i.e. brick) you're drilling into - that the plug has expanded and grips the hole in the wall for a strong fixing. There's somewhere I saw online (for the life of me I can't remember where, sorry) where it tells you how long a screw you need for a particular job - without revisiting high school bending moment diagrams! Since it was a month ago, I'm sure you've got your answer :)

Really liked the video, until the end and the price! Wow they seem expensive but I will still be looking into getting one for my bedroom as I often have to use an eye mask and I too use one of those stick up blackout blinds like in the video! Holding the hoover how you were when drilling looked a bit awkward, can I suggest you have a look on Amazon for a "Drilling dust nozzle". There are various ones available but the Festool one is surprisingly one of the cheapest and the best. Also something else you could add you your "tool store". Thanks for your videos!

@@CharlieDIYte I would be really interested if you know of any blinds and curtain 'closers' that can be used with smart speaker like Amazon's Echo/Alexa, a video would be great! I am very surprised that they aren't more common place as from a security view point I think they would be a great addition in the winter months as you could set them up to close at dusk and have smart bulbs turn on so the house looks occupied. Driving around in the winter months it is always so obvious which houses are empty and must make for easy pickings for robbers.

Charlie, loved the video and the product but obviously a bit pricey given our bedroom window is around 1800 x 1500. I have tackled this in the lats two homes we refurbished by adding a 3 sided pocket frame (top, left & right) and incorporated the coving at the top. We used blackout curtains instead and vision blinds which means we have privacy during the daylight hours and more practical. The curtains are velcro taped both sides, the frame material was 100mm MDF pencil round skirting pre primed. Looks great

Thanks. The side channels are not typical but something you can specify if total blackout is required.

Hi Charlie great video...can you tell me where you can purchase the blind system? Thanks

Hi Steve. Yes, there's a link in the Description below the video where you can get in touch with us. There are other systems on the market but you've just got to make sure they're decent quality. The system in this video is part chain part spring so when you push it down the final section it tensions the blind to keep it taught.

Hi Charlie, Came across your channel few days ago and mate i cannot thank you enough for Your tips and tricks. I have 1 request please, any chance you could show or even drop me a message on how to fill in screw holes on a prefinished oak veneer door? I had a bolt lock on 2 of them. It's no longer needed but no longer need the locks so I'm desperate to find a method. Thank you in advance

Saj, I missed this somehow. Did you sort the problem? There are coloured 2 part wood fillers you could use but the best way to do a near invisible repair would be to get some little oak pegs shaped in a slight cone, and then tap them in with a bit of wood glue, tidying then off with a sharp chisel.

@@CharlieDIYte thank you so much for your reply. I haven't sorted it out yet. Extremely hesitant because these are prefinished doors, kind of a glossy finish on them. Is there an alternative without any use of chisel? I'll most likely dent and scratch it if I use that lol. Thanks again for your help.

Quite expensive for a blackout blind but it’s the best one I have seen so you get what you pay for. Is the 20% discount you offer time limited? I would like to buy one and support the channel but won’t be needing one straight away as we are moving house in the next few months and I would like to purchase one for our bedroom when we move.

Not time limited my friend. Just get in touch when you're ready for it.

Blimey that's a lot of tools! Ryobi fan too... But then makita... I'm looking for a new driver set but no idea if tied to one make is better or mix

To be honest Justin, I was sent some Erbauer power tools to try out by B&Q a while ago. They're a decent set of tools and I've been using them in tandem with my Ryobi stuff. For me, it's not an issue having two different chargers kicking about but if you're a site worker, clearly you need to stick to one brand to keep things manageable.

@@CharlieDIYte indeed. Us DIY ers just concerned with it working... Some drain so quickly and are not powerful enough for lots of driving screws when putting in a new floor

Doing a total blackout system with attic bay windows is pain. I've resorted to perfectfit blackouts to stop the majority of it on the three panes, then a roman blind (fits tighter to the edges of the walls) in front of that to stop most of the residual light.

I've spoken to the supplier. They've had a problem with the website which they're working on. Keep checking, it will come back online. 👍

One issue I can see with cassette blinds is when fully shut at night the window also needs to be fully shut otherwise the blind will billow out of the side channels with a slight breeze and potentially jam things up. I like to keep my bedroom window slightly open at night for ventilation. How can this be resolved?
