that helped me reassemble my mower, since it has been three weeks since I pulled it apart was confused about the tnsion spring and where it went. Kevlar belts are the best for this situation of back idler pulleys. I tried an ordinary cheap belt and it lasted 3 hours and broke apart

Nice work again. I have had customers also ask about the belt tension on those mower drive belts. Don't know if anyone has come up with a solution. Maybe the spring loses tension after some time. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for this video. I love the idea of hoisting the front end. I did that on my YTH18542. Mine was different in that it didn't have the same setup coming off the crankshaft, but I was able to figure it out and got the belt changed. Again, thanks for posting this.

Great video. Perfect presentation. Quick question. Same model, i'm getting a pretty loud "squeal" or high pitched noise coming from my drive belt assembly. I can tell because when parking brake is on and disengaging the belt, it stops. I can visually see the belt looks pretty good. (150hours) but i suspect one of the bearings from either the 3 pulleys or that clutch is wearing out. It only starts making the noise after 15 minutes of use. Do you have an easy way to diagnose or experience with which one might be the culprit?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines4 ай бұрын
There’s no real easy way to diagnose a noise. If I had your machine, I would need to take the mower deck off run the machine until the noise starts and try and figure out what is making the noise.

Hi Brad - thanks for doing this video! Question - I have a Husqvarna GTH that I started to replace the drive belt on (just like what you are doing in the video). When I turned the 5/8" bolt (on the bottom pulley), the engine turns over. Is there a way to disconnect/disable the engine from turning over when the 5/8" bolt is turned? Thank you!

If you have an electric PTO clutch, the easiest way is to use a power tool, borrow one if needed. Or i have heard of using a rope put inside the spark plug hole to stop the piston from going over top dead center and this should work. I have not yet tried it but I think I will make a video on it at some point. Perform a search on KZbin on "How to remove the bolt from an electric PTO on a lawn tractor without using power tools" I'm sure there are many out there to help. I am still learning from many comments and I do appreciate the positive feedback. I hope you get the job done and let me know how you performed getting the bolt off.

You are correct. Many Ariens were made by American yard products and American yard products made many machines for many different companies. Husqvarna has taken over American yard products.

I am the second owner of a Husqvarna YTH180, I lifted the front end to change the drive belt and noticed by PTO clutch did not have the bar in the slot. I am not sure if some PTO's have to have the bar in the slot and some don't?? I never had an issue with the deck not engaging. I would appreciate it if anyone can answer my question!
@JohnsonsSmallEngines7 ай бұрын
The bar keeps the PTO from spinning. You most likely have a bracket already mounted somewhere. If you take the your PTO off. You should see how it is. There are many different ways the bracket is depending on the model of machine.

At 6:08 of the vid... bottom right hand side, where the anti-sway bar MOUNT is located on the frame.... is the frame cracked or broken there? .... any one else seeing this? 6:28 shows the crack a little better ... At 8:04 you can see the BREAK/CRACK in the frame really good. At 8:27 you can see the crack and I think I know why.... Notice the bracket coming down right where the crack is. that is the anti-sway bar mount. when you engage your deck, the deck gets a really good "jarring" when it starts up and the anti-sway bar pulls on that bracket, and over time it looks as if that mounting bracket is causing stress on the frame in that area. if this is not remedied soon, that frame will crack more and actually break. anyone else seeing what I am seeing?
