Hi Sam, glad the shop is evolving to your liking. Thanks for keeping it real. I perceive that many people are like you regarding work and builds. They hold a full-time job, but their other-self is a builder, repairer, etc. A contractor could probably pull-off the job in a day, even by moving things from one side of the shop to the other. However, the rest of us have to do it a few hours of the day until the job is done. So yes, it is time for a happy dance. Enjoy your shop Sam, job well done. I look forward to your other projects.

Hope your pacing yourself with everything. I should've waited for help yesterday to carry an old beat up 8ft table up the stairs to take out to the road with the trash, but got tired of waiting for my dad to get up from his nap, and carried it up the stairs by myself. Thankfully not injured, but a little sore and overexerted today. Lessons learned though.

Looks great, Sam. More progress is always better. Last year I installed several rooms of laminate flooring that was a vinyl wood appearance over composite board. I learned quickly that it would gum up my saw blade and was almost impossible to clean off of it. Glad you didn't have that problem. Take care. Bill
@diyhuntress3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The smaller circular saw was great for this project - it didn’t clog the blade at all!
@thomasarussellsr3 жыл бұрын
William, speed of the feed through the material can play into that. If you force the cut the blade will heat up. Also if the flooring has a glue aspect to it, either to each other piece or to the subfloor. Also, if the blade has too many teeth, like a blade for plywood (more than 40 teeth in a 7 1/2 inch blade) vs a 40 tooth or less, say a 24 tooth. If it still gums up, spray the blade with some kind of oil (WD-40, PB-Blaster, or the like) or wipe some paste wax on it regularly.
@williamellis89933 жыл бұрын

@@diyhuntress Do a wall art installation. For of course, you can stash it some where just in case you have damage to the floor some day. However, having to take the floor back up to the damaged spot could be tricky and tongues could break, so, maybe holdong on to all the extra may be a good idea. Also, by then you may just want to redo the whole floor. You never know. One could use it as a back for a "book shelf" storage rack in the shed. (Snap what you need together, trim it to fit, and nail/screw it to the back or slide it into a dado.)

Can you answer a question for for a fellow (relatively new) woodworker? I am building a 12 x 16 woodworking shop/shed. My plan has been to install vinyl plank flooring, as you have done. I was looking at some waterproof options, such as with the Lifeproof brand. I noticed their installation instructions state that the product should not be installed in areas that are not temperature controlled. Have you had any issues with your planks buckling or noticed any damage? Do you have any product recommendations?

I've read so of your comments and you said it was holding up well, is this still the case? 2/3 of my Shed-Shop will be a wood shop with a stationary table saw and 1/3 for lawn equipment including a riding lawn mower. Huntress, one question; How is it spill/water proof if you don't seal the seams and edges? I never understood this claim on plank flooring. It does look excellent though, great job. And yeah, those specialty floor installation tools and knee pads are a real life and time saver on flooring jobs. Excellent job showing the steps of the install. Any intentions of a french-cleat system or something like it on the wall above the tool cabinets/"work benches"? I can't wait to see your version of a miter saw station. It seems like everybody comes up with little tweeks that make theirs unique and show something I want to do to change my design. (I haven't started mine yet either).
@diyhuntress3 жыл бұрын
The edges are covered by the wall trim and the door threshold. Once the actual flooring is assembled though, the seams are so tiny that nothing seeps under the boards! It’s been awesome so far!
