This is awesome, thanks! 10:55 - My win95 machine kept freezing when loading the boot disk image, I eventually figured out that it was 0 bytes in size because firefx silently blocked it as malicious! I redownloaded it and allowed the download!

This was really a great video i watched it from the 1st second all the way to the last, even though my ISO didnt have PLUS . Your voice is also great for these kind of videos, it's calming and definitely not annoying. Love that you mentioned playing the incredible machine, that's one of the things i'm going to do, the newer versions of TIM dont pull the same strings My windows starts up fine but my sound was way slower than yours, but will tweak the ram settings etc First time i'm using 86Box though, as another site suggested it was better than Virtualbox for win95. Also this way of installing windows is different to how i did it back then, i had no idea that the boot disk can copy the install files over by itself, i used to do that manually via command prompt after the FDISK step. I too have installed windows over and over, over the years that the serials got stuck in my head. The Bootable-USB has spoiled us so much and these days windows setup is almost just one-click. Does 86Box have an option to not capture the mouse? it's a bit of a mission having to release the capture each time.
@hs_doubbing6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Ugh, yeah, modern web browsers make it so hard to download obscure files… I don’t think there’s a way to avoid capturing the mouse, unfortunately. The way VirtualBox gets around that problem is by emulating a USB pen tablet, which of course is unsupported by any computer old enough to be running in 86Box.

Great video and very detailed. Unfortunately, I seem to get stuck after the disk boot failure message. I have all the configurations set as instructed and the proper boot disk mounted but it just hangs there flashing the cursor for way too long (over 2 hours) Not sure what I could be doing wrong. This is true on my main computer and on my laptop. Both of them are under a year old and fairly powerful gaming computers. Going to do a little adjusting in the configuration and hopefully get something to happen!

The good thing about Windows 95 is that unlike Windows for Workgroups 3.11 you didn't have to go through the pain and headache of manually installing most of the drivers. It automatically detects and installs the majority of drivers!

It sounds like the machine is trying to boot from the empty hard drive, which means you’ve either removed your floppy image from the drive or your BIOS boot order is set incorrectly in the setup utility. Make sure you’ve still got the setup boot disk in the floppy drive, and if so, check that the A drive is before the C drive in the boot order, under advanced BIOS features in the system setup.
@thisisnolongerrelevant Жыл бұрын
@@hs_doubbing Late reply but I suppose I got that solved. However, now I am having issues after installing: Something about the video driver, and it repeats this error multiple times. I am uncertain about how to fix this.
@hs_doubbing Жыл бұрын
I’ve found that video drivers on Windows 95 can just be…really annoying, lol. You might try manually selecting the video driver that matches your video chipset you chose in the VM settings, and if that doesn’t work, try a different video chipset (a Trident one might be a good idea) and install the driver again.

At 14:08 it just says "CDROM not High Sierra or ISO-9660 format reading drive X" what do i do?
@hs_doubbing6 күн бұрын
As the message would imply, the ISO of Windows 95 you have may somehow be formatted wrong. Try downloading the one I have linked in the video description and see if it works better for you. Basically, ISO-9660/High Sierra is the oldest standardized file system for CD-ROMs. Windows calls it “CDFS.” Nowadays, CDs are sometimes in other formats, such as UDF. If you put a disc in one of those other formats in a DOS PC, you will get that error message, because DOS only supports ISO-9660. It’s possible you have a Windows 95 ISO that was mistakenly formatted in UDF.
@SeDarkLoad6 күн бұрын
@@hs_doubbing I used the one you linked but it looks different than in the video since it only has the disk01 iso and the artwork folder and lacks the Disk01 folder and the "Bootable" iso.Could that be the problem?

I did the exact same setup as you (except for a few options that you don't have in 86Box Manager that were probably added in a later version) but when I get to the Win 95 install I get errors saying the configuration is invalid, then it copies nothing and after the reboot I get the DISK BOOT FAILURE message. I would assume the error is in the hdd but since I have the same config as you I really don't know what's wrong..

I have that keyboard, suffice to say, when I found some other keyboards, I immediately got them to swap that one out, forever. The only gripe I have is with the arrow keys on that one in the setup wallpaper. It was in the style of a diamond, instead of the flipped t style most keyboards of the time had back then and even now.

@LostBeetle9 ай бұрын
86box and pcem emulate the entire computer on one core of your processor, it's surprisingly difficult emulating even moderate hardware from back in the day. It would be nice if they could emulate utilizing multiple threads but from what I understand that's basically impossible.
